Depends on who's using the Dare... if you know the right streaming URLs, you can really rack up the data. It not so much apples & oranges. Hell, I've racked up over 200MB a month on iDEN... yes, freakin' iDEN!!! Why? I stream like crazy on my i930 crapbox little WM2003SP Smartphone. ...and they say iDEN can't stream!!! Yeah, right! Any phone with an open port 80 URL service can do it very easily so long as you've got software like Opera and a media player.Originally Posted by Jkuhn

How can it be released on 11/14? I guess they are keeping it top secret compared to aggressive advertising for the storm.
I can't see how it'll be released on 11/14. Doesn't the training guide not even having training starting until a little after that?
I think someone probably just tossed that date our or heard it from a CSR who didn't know what they were talking about.
That date is just based on VZW starting their new policy requiring all new Windows Mobile phones to have a $30 or greater data plan. So, for the question, "how could VZW screw up the Omnia so that I would no longer what it?" the answer becomes "announce it on 11/14 (or later)".Originally Posted by lexluthor

So in other words, no one still really has any idea
DZW, did you just get Nov 14 from some employee when you asked at a store? If so, I'd say that's pretty meaningless. Or do you have a better source than that?
i have a six shooter...and i will put one bullet in right after the hammer...i`ll pull the trigger with the gun pointed at my head once a day starting on 11/9...i`ll stop if the phone is out on the 14th!!

yeah it was just the store manager, he said he had talked with the samsung rep about the phone and got to handle it a little. he got the date from him im guessing, or maybe he just knows this will be one of the first new PDAs that will require the data plan starting the 14th.
I know this does not give you guys a release date however it doest state that the following devices will launch on or after the 14th.

Hopefully someone can answer this, can I purchase a windows mobile smartphone, and sign up for the pay as you go data plan, then when/if the omnia and or touch pro is released just swap the phones since it is within the 30 day period, and still not have to "upgrade" to the 29.99 data plan? Because my NE2 is up as of right now
i would like to know also. I guess it wouldn't really hurt to try right?Originally Posted by pix3l
*edit: Actually on second thought i don't think it would work because it would probably be like switching from a XV6800 to a Blackberry Curve right now, which means you would be required to get that data plan when you switch. I could be wrong though.
Hmm, well I'll cal up Verizon and they will probably not know about the data plan switch
trust, if u can get a pda phone now DO IT!
once the insurance co. gets it and you need to have the phone "replaced" it will grandfather to your plan you have now (without the data feature).
thats my plan anyway.
and it seems logical that if you just buy the phone without signing up for a new two year contract, and just activating the new phone on your existing account will do the same.

thanks for that update VZW E! I am very happy to see that!

You will not be able to activate any of the new, post 11/14, smartphones, like the Omnia or the Touch Pro, without also selecting a $29.99 or higher data plan. The ESN will "rat you out".
Remember, it isn't the date of purchase, nor the start date of your contract, but the date the phone model first went on sale.
So you have been out-of-contract for 5 months? Even though technically the NE2 says it is good for only 6 months, VZW lets that slide and will still allow a NE2 discount after the 6 months has gone. Hay, they aren't going risk loosing a customer that's already out-of-contract over it. So, you should have no problem waiting for the Omnia or the Touch Pro to go on sale, and still get your NE2 on it.![]()
