Touch Diamond! Touch Diamond! Oh wait, it sucks.

    http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/03/m...e-winmos-flaw/

And THIS is the reason why we await Android with so much anticipation. A nice shell and a touch interface and still Windows Mobile cr*p.

Well, to be fair that is Walt Mossberg's section on WSJ. And everyone knows he's an Apple fanboy. I mean, Im sure the phone's OS isnt anything spectacular, but still.

And Im sure Android isnt gonna hit it outta the park on first go around & will take a while to mature into a great OS. Lets wait & see what Google actually brings us before we start sucking each other's wee wees & declaring the death of WM.

How many reviews are out there for the Touch Diamond?

And how many of them are positive?

And how many spend the entire time complaining its not the iPhone?

If the answer to any of these questions is >1, perhaps its worth investigating a little farther, rather than let an Apple fanboy, who apparently can't make it 5 minutes without fondling his iPhone, make your decisions for you

Maybe these so called "experts" should stop reviewing WM devices and expecting them NOT to look like WM? So many sites seem to take time out in their reviews to say WM is ugly, by what standard are they judging? Does S60 also look ugly? How about Blackberry's OS? Why is WM always singled out for the hatred and criticism? And above all if you dont like MS, Windows or WM why, for goodness' sake would you BUY A WM PHONE???!!!!

Edit: for the record I AM a WM fanboy!

I hate these reviews where a WM device is being bashed just for not being an iPhone wannabe.

As for Android, I'm not getting anything from those privacy invaders known as Google. If they are collecting your IP and the addresses you type in the address bar of their Chrome browser, imagine how much they'll be able to do when they control the entire OS.

For the record, I'm not a WM fanboy but I am anti-iPhone.

I've seen Symbian S60, and its no beauty queen. Plus the lack of a touch option doesn't exactly make it super intuitive.

In Windows Mobile, you see something, you click on it and something happens. Click the antenna and you get connectivity options, click the time and you get time options, and so on. That's something not even the iPhone can claim.
CDMA - a great technology, hobbled by greedy carriers and a closed business model. Its a pity, really.

WM is WM. You know what you are getting.

I don't expect it to be pretty. I expect it to have a huge library of apps. I expect it to freak out once in a while and require me to reboot.

I can live with these things for the flexibility it affords me.

The review to me was useless. It should have been titled "HTC Touch Diamond - Its not an iPhone"

    LOL

the thing with all these dumb people who writes these reviews is that they are too stupid to use the phone more than what it is. They just take it out of the box and thats pretty much it. They dont hack it, mod it, whatever. I dont care about any columnist from any newspaper, because in the end their just too dumb to actually know the POTENTIAL of a phone.

Sure, iPhone is nice out of the box, sure has plenty of Applications in the store and from illegitimate sources, but in the end it still lacks to the THOUSANDS of software you can find on the internet with a WM phone. Notice how I say software because with the iPhone you can only download applications. Just a handful will actually modify your phone.

I've been on both sides of the fences, actually I've been on all THREE. Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and currently the iPhone, and gone through them in that order. So far, nothing has ever came close to as much as what you can do on a WM phone.

HTC Diamond might have its flaws, but hey, who cares? In the end if I get it, its going to be totally different from what it is now. And I honestly cant believe iPhone users are actually trashing on WM phones right now for its flaws. Our applications most of the time wont even open up properly!

If someone is frustrated by or incapable of navigating simple menus, then perhaps they shouldn't be reviewing technology, period.

I take issue with the reviewer on many levels, but principally on the description of WM as complicated. It doesn't get much more simple than hitting the Start softkey and selecting the icon of your choice. In fact, it's been the standard for launching programs since IBM invented it decades ago. And any menu options requiring you to set something up like e-mail are so painfully clear that, in my opinion, you'd have to ride the short bus to not figure it out.

In the end, for me, the appeal of WM comes down to freedom. I can choose from a library of tens of thousands of apps to do whatever I want with my device or to customize it's look and feel to suit my every whim. And I consider the menus to be an added value. If I choose not to use them, my application works regardless. If I choose to use them, then they empower me to do what I want with an application when and how I want.

And WM does it all with an approximately 20Mb footprint, at least on my Dash. One point no reviewer has ever made in their comparison of one phone to an iPhone is that WM does more with that 20Mb than the iPhone will ever do with its 700Mb OS.

I'll tell you what's frustrating, having a company lock you in to a configuration or set of applications that they feel you need, and little else.

I have lots of friends with iPhones. And I am an Apple fan. I have a MacBook Air, a 12 inch MacBook and a monster iMac on my desk in my office. We run a fairly sophisticated data tracking system on a Mac Pro with a 15 or so TB RAID array at work. They make great stuff. And after playing with iPhones you couldnt give me one. It doesnt have the functions that a WM phone or a BB has. I can do expense reports on WM phones. I have written and submitted to scientific journals manuscripts for review on WM devices. I have more or less full Exchange capability on WM phones. Sorry, Ill take the Macs and the iPods (Ive had about 5 of the latter). But keep the silly phone.
