I am a new user here and I received a Tmobile 8801 from my brother that he is not using. I am about to unlock but I want to covert it to a gold one including the midplate.
I was wondering how hard it is to convert it into an 8800 gold housing?
anybody have any clue?
I bought a 8800 Sirocco gold housing which is a complete housing for it. Do I need a new battery? Do I need to do anything else to make it work?
I am a cingular user.
can anybody help?
Since you bought a sirocco housing its way differnt from the 8801,your going to have to buy a sirocco antenna and a sirocco charging unit. You can pretty much transfer all the guts from the 8800 over to the sirocco housing but on the midplate your gona run into trouble with a little speaker by the vibrating motor and the charger unit. It has to be replaced as well but another guy on here said the one from your midplate should work.
If you have any questions just let me know ill try an help you as much as possible. I tried to do the conversion as well but i failed because i couldnt find the extra parts i needed. Please take pics though ! i should have took pics and posted them :/ my first time around
thanks for the info. I will post pics as I go along. I will post them as I work through the process.
Hopefully I can get mine to work.
I have some pictures that I will put on my myspace profile. The captions will be a kind of DIY guideline.
sooo any updates ?
im in the process of 2 mods myself, trying to figure out of any of the 88xx series would fit into a arte housing and an old school 7190>7110 housing just for the lulz
I will post some pictures tonite after work. I have gotten a long way. I broke the antennae for the 8801 while shaving it down and ordered another one. I also ordered an antennae for the the 8800 to see how it would fit. I will post very descriptive notes.
If I remember correctly, wasn't the 7190>7110 a simple mod? It'd be awesome if you could get it working. You should post a video of it on youtube.Originally Posted by kyosuke
I'm not sure if a 880x would fit in an Arte housing. I think a Luna would fit much better, but the charger would be totally in the wrong place on the mainboard. Still, that'd be just as cool as the 7190 mod. Even cooler would be an 8110 mod.![]()
where did you find the 7110 housings? I have 2 brand new 7190s but would like to mix them up a bit to have fun.Originally Posted by kyosuke

could you please post them here as well... thanksOriginally Posted by remstarasianboy
I decided to post it only here because I did not want to give links to my myspace account. Besides you guys are the only ones who would be interested in this kind of stuff anyways. I am not done yet but as I progress, I will update this thread.
This is the housing that I received.
Side by Side. 8800 gold housing and the 8801 that will be modded.
1st step
2nd step. Move all pieces removed to the midplate for the 8800 Except for the antennae and speaker module.
3rd step.
Comparing the board from and sliding mechanism from the 8801
4th Step
Antennae/Speaker Module
I peeled the antennae off the plastic piece which encloses the speaker module. It does not fit into the midplate for the 8800. I filed down the plastic piece but it still did not fit. This is where I am stuck. I didn't have a chance to take a picture of the filed down antennae but once I do I will post that as well. I ordered an antennae for the 8800 and I am in the process of purchasing an 8801 for parts.
Comments questions concerns? Please let me know if there is something you need to know or something you can tell me to help.

i filed down the 8801 antenna last time.... result. loss of signal frequently dropped calls... i ended up selling it. but i did the gunmetal housing so the buyer was really pleased since it was "rare"
That is what I'm fearing loss of signal and dropped calls. What I think I'm going to do is strip the 8801 antennae and place it over the plastic housing for the 8800 speaker. And then solder the pieces together..... i'm not sure what to do yet.
if you do take on that project, please let us know what the reception is like. I'd like to do the sirocco swap.
When i was doing this the 8800 and the 8801 speaker did not fit. I had to order a sirocco antenna =/ and it fit perfectly
maybe for the 7160 mod but the 7190 you had to relocate some kinda capacitator by soldering it with longer wires on the board. You run the chance of having a not working phone if u mess up. What you mean 8110 mod ? you mean a working auto slider ? lol some dude did it with rubber bands here some where.Originally Posted by dohdough
