Does anyone know when Apple plans to release the new in-ear headphones with mic? It's been "coming soon" forever and I'm tired of waiting. I need something with a shorter cord (like the stock headset) that is the push in type, not the hard ear buds.

Suggestions?

I went to the Apple store and asked and they said it is supposed to come out in October...so we still have 21 days...

I'm also waiting..

This is getting ridiculous. Steve debuted these things forever ago.

My V-modas BROKE YET AGAIN (GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR) so I was looking for some good looking, in-ear sound blocking models WITH microphone when I suddenly remembered that Apple made some now.

Lo and behold they were still listed as coming soon. Cmon Apple! Step up!

I have a theory about this. The only thing stopping the new headphone volume controls from working with the iPhone is firmware, not hardware. The next iPhone firmware release is version 2.2, and is running a little later than expected.

So, my guess (and it is just a guess) is that firmware 2.2 will include this functionality, and that Apple will release the headphones after the update.

I also spoke to an Apple Store Rep and they said they placed an order and are waiting for them to arrive.
