A couple questions about the TM506

Hello people, I realize a lot of you have answered a lot of questions about the TM506. I went through most of the TM506 threads I could find and still have a few questions -

If I use an MP3 files as a ringtone, does the speaker *ring* as loud as you expect it to? In effect I am asking if the mp3 ringtones/speaker are loud enough to be used?

If all I want to do is use my TM506 for voicecalls, what kinda battery life am I looking at? I've heard people complain that they are getting bad battery life, I'd just like to hear from more tm506 buyers about it.

Thanks for your replies in advance.

the mp3 tones are loud in my opinion, there doesn't seem to be a problem there.

and others have complained about the battery life but mine has been fine. However I am not getting a 3g signal, it is still gsm. Apparently even just getting a 3g signal can wear out your battery so when 3g goes live nationwide it might make a considerable difference in battery life.
I need the Samsung Epic NOW!!!!!

mMode -thanks for your reply. Appreciate it.

Regarding the battery life, I remember reading somewhere that there's no setting where you can get your phone to only look for the 2G signal, right? Chicago doesn't yet have T-M 3g (or does it?), but that could be an issue in the future.

yeah, no 3G yet for chicago. i can't personally rate the battery life because i charge my phone every night but my brother (got the phone on friday) has only charged his phone once since the initial charge (he only uses it for voice and text messages). also, i have my volume at 6 while my brother might have his at 5, but i don't know if that's any indication of the speaker volume or the mp3 volume.

I've been going about 2 days before I have to charge it. That's with voice, good amount of texting and checking the gmail app. No 3g here yet but I think it tries to register on it every once and a while but gets denied.

battery is decent under 3G enviornment.....can run almost 2 hours of tethering (and play streaming) and have some juice left (around 40%)

I got 2 full days of use on a full charge, about 30-40 mins of talk per day. 10mins or less of email/internet per day. I returned it yesterday. There was no option 2 select 2g only. I guess t-mo locked that out. Disabling gps didn't have a noticable difference. I returned it b/c when 3g goes live here (not yet, miami) i wouldn't b able 2 deal w/ even less batt life.
