Wow, that's about twice as fast as what I'm getting -- .76 and .11, and this in the tech happy Bay Area, hard by silicon valley (Redwood City). SE PC Suite says I'm in a "very good reception" zone.
Oh well, it's not bad.
One thing that does concern me is the way I keep getting dead calls. About one out of every four, and just about every time with one client, I can see their name on the screen but cannot hear them and they don't hear me. When I call back right away, we can hear each other. I don't get that the call works perfectly just seconds later. T Mobile says they have limited options for sleuthing out intermittant performance.

Wanted: T-Mobile USA pay as you go sim that has gold rewards status ,
could also use a prepaid Sim for Germany and Belgium to use in October 09, thanks
The TM506 is just a restyled Z780, if that's what you're asking. Other than cases, most Sony-Ericsson accessories work with most of their phones since they all use the Fast Port connector.Originally Posted by trackVW
Is there any way to change the soft keys on the main menu? I just got a new T-mobile branded TM506. I can only customize two of the directional pad soft keys.
I may take this phone back... it's a shadow of the Motorola RAZR it replaced. I can't customize anything on this stupid phone!
Thanks,
-Roger
The TM506 has nothing at all to do with the RAZR, and is light-years ahead of it in terms of features and usability.Originally Posted by Blüestreak

It is not uncommon for carrier branded phones to not offer much customization. Debrand the phone the way most TM506 users have, and then better asses how customizable it is.
Hmmm . . . methinks I may get into this here debranding thing after all.
But one thing is driving me nuts and may influence my long term relationship with T-Mobile/SE. It's getting to where about half of my incoming calls show the caller's name or number on the screen but no voice is available, nor do they hear mine. I call back immediately and everything works.
Anybody else with T-Mobile experience this? A friend of mine from Michigan, who is pretty tech savvy has a brother who lives here in the Bay Area and he claims that T-Mobile uses SF as a sort of proving ground. Not sure if this is true, but the SF area is a sort of high tech capital so if it doesn't work here, not good.
Or might it be the phone that's doing this? Customer service says they have a hard time identifying intermittent issues.
Hi
has anyone used an unlocked TM506 for 3g tethering in Europe or Asia ?
One of the reasons I bought it was to tether on T-mobile 3g, which does not seem to work now ,
so I was wondering if the other 3g 2100mhz band works in the rest of the world,
thanks for the info

It still works for me.Originally Posted by trackVW

Is there any reason for me to debrand the phone if I surf lightly using Opera-mini and am pretty happy with it?
Thanks
The list of advantages to the generic SE firmware is huge. Usually branded phone cannot use Java apps (mine couldn't), so that's probably the biggest. There's also: function data indicator (G, E, and H), improved GPS performance, no T-Mobile crap, quicker/more responsive overall, FM radio with RDS. There are many others but it's a Saturday afternoon and my mind isn't working that well at the moment.![]()
If you're happy with the phone, then you can wait until you find something that debranding would get you that you really.Originally Posted by briiansd
This just in: my phone will accept all incoming calls if I press the green 'send' or 'answer' key twice. The first time, it shows the little man connected to the incoming call. The second press, I see the message "Retrieving Call," and I can actually talk to the caller (!?!?!). Oh well, T-mobil instructs me to do the reset setting thing to see if that works.
Stand by (all on the edge of their seats).
Will a memory card make the phone run any better or is that strictly for storage?
Thanks
I've not really tested whether it will make the phone perform better. But I moved everything that the phone will permit to the memory card (applications, SMS messages, bookmarks, pictures, etc.) to make sure I use as little of phone memory as possible.Originally Posted by briiansd
