I was a bit put off by that at first but I sorta like the design of the connector clips. This probably is due in part to the fact that my only phones prior to this one were 3 Motorolas, and they all had problems with the charger hookup.
My first one, a Star TAC got so funky I had to use a big rubber band to hold the charger cable on. The next two were a bit better but both of them would give me grief sometimes, not hooking up, showing an "unable to charge" message. Pain in the backside especially when I wanted to go to bed and it wouldn't start charging.
You can get little conversion bits that plug into the TM506 tha have a female jack for the standard headset jack.

I'm a little perplexed that I'm allowed to edit shortcuts for the right and the left navigation keys only. The upper key gives me a list of calls and I have the same shortcut on the call key, if no number has yet been specified. The down navigation key gives me my contact list which also has another key dedidcated to it on the home page, the left soft key.
Also, I can't seem to get the 'My shortcuts' page to empty out so I can fill it up as I wish.
Small objections but puzzling little annoyances nonetheless.
So my wife is due for an upgrade. Can will still mod the phones being shipped out now? SEUSS-->Wiki (a2 uploader et cetera...)?
Yes, just follow the wiki to debrand any TM506 currently sold. It will work fine.Originally Posted by naxalite
Do you know whether I'll be able to use that with a T-Mo branded TM506? There's really no other reason I'm in a hurry to debrand. We have family unlimited messaging so I don't mind getting my email via messaging. The only other reason would be the FM radio and so far I haven't really missed it.Originally Posted by ibtrotter
The point is, I'm certainly in no hurry to debrand and I may not ever, but I would like to check out that java app if you think it would work.
Just click the getjar link, load it on the phone and try to run it. I don't recall having too much trouble loading the apps on my phone due to T-mobile branding. So it should work.Originally Posted by cutter44
Thank you. I didn't even think to just try it first. I downloaded it and sent it to the phone via bluetooth and it seems to work just fine. I appreciate it.
I have to ask, why this obsession? My branded phone allows me to tether w/o problem (USB and BT), the gps works great for geotagging, geocaching and navigating, googlemaps works, as does gmail. As I see it, the only thing I lack is FM radio. So please, why?
Did Google finally release a version of Google Maps that works with the phone's GPS?Originally Posted by ibtrotter
Up until this point, most people reported that any version of Google Maps that was added to the branded TM-506 could only use the cell towers to estimate the position which is far more inaccurate than using the phone's GPS.
The unbranded phone permits you to use the Google Maps which is built into the phone's firmware. Though older, it does use the phone's GPS.
Which version did you get to finally work with the phone's GPS on your branded phone?
It's not an obsession. For me it was the improved camera compression codec. People comment on the quality of my phone photos all the time. I sure do like this phone. It's one of my favorites and I've owned a lot of phones. I'm not into smart phones...I wanted a pocket phone with features like full web access, 3G, tethering, and decent camera. The calendar syncs well with my Mac.
I don't think they have. There has been nothing mentioned in the Google Mobile Blog. I think maps load for him so in his mind Google Maps "works", but My Location only works with cell tower triangulation.Originally Posted by jet1000
I've been waiting for Google to release a new Java version of GMM for a LONG time. Google's obvious focus these days is on smartphone platforms like Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone. They haven't released anything new for J2ME in forever.
