SD describes the problem here:

Again this is not complete information. Bluetooth tethering is not blocked on any APN. USB tethering is only blocked on the APN's epc.tmobile.com and wap.voicestream.com. See SD's post here:Originally Posted by Antenna

I never understood why they even make tri-band phones - they should either make it dual or quad. Actually, since I visit Romania often, I would prefer the 900 over the 1900 band since the former is more common over there.Originally Posted by klinglerware

when I just got the red TM506, I did an experiment before running a2uploader
no, the first 2 ID doesn't allow tethering over bt
if I put the blank SIM, NONE account works (got "external connection not allowed" error); and if I put in my working SIM, only ID 1 and 2 are blocked (but you still can use bt PAN)
Its best to flash the phone (no matter the color) because then all java apps work. The java apps & tethering where blocked on my red and green SE Tm506 prior to using the Cin Bell method.
If you want, you can always flash back to the T-Mobile version by adding the old "customize" file back and then using the SE-US update.
Thanks for the responses, but I'm still confused... If I don't debrand my TM506 to CB firmware,
1. Can I tether through BT? how do I find out my account ID? If it's blocked, would BT PAN still work for tethering?
2. Can I still install java apps such as Google maps, J2meMaps, Mobile GMaps, Amaze etc?
3. Would J2meMaps, Mobile GMaps, Amaze work with the built-in GPS?
I don't need the FM radio, so if I can tether and these java apps can be installed and work with the GPS, I may hold on debranding the phone.
Thanks!
as along as you configure yourself or using configurator (use K850), and use the data account ID, it will work, as well as PANOriginally Posted by dxhofo

Well, I have a brand new green model, not flashed or customized. It can tether with SE PC Suite, both BT and USB.Originally Posted by Antenna
I was able to install Opera Mini directly from the operamini web site.
Other Java apps were downloadable and installable (and usable) from SD's page, or from Getjar.
Why would the red model be different from silver and green? Isn't the difference only the trim color?
Dxhofo--if you haven't tried it yet, install the SE PC Suite, downloadable from SE's web site. With that installed, once the phone is connected (BT or USB), click the button to connect to the Internet, and the computer will tether through the phone.Originally Posted by dxhofo
I'd still like to learn if there are other ways though, without reflashing.
What is the configurator, and where does one get the data account ID?Originally Posted by Scottish Skyeandce
When I tried on my green model (now debranded), it let me install, but it would not sync to internet. Maybe its just my luck? I dont care now, as it has all T-mo stuff removedOriginally Posted by maiki

connect-internet setting
choose "connect using", and you see a list of internet accounts
highlight the one you installed-option-view
you can find account ID there
what account ID #9, I tried and it worked fine just as #4. What's the APN and setting behind #9 ?
