I just got an XV6700 from eBay. It had ROM 2.07.20 WWE. I downloaded APA_Verizon_31430_314208_14300_WWE_Ship_2.exe from utstar.com and tried to upgrade my phone. I am using a Gateway laptop running Vista. I started Windows Mobile Device Center and connected to the phone. Then, I ran the above program. It read the ROM information from the phone and prompted me to upgrade. About 30 seconds after pressing the OK button, the phone screen went black, and then the .exe displayed an error message saying that there was a problem with the connection. At that point, I noticed that the Windows Mobile Device Center had disappeared (stopped running) on the laptop. The only choice on the error message box was exit. The phone now does nothing. Do I now have a paperweight, or is there some way to restore it? Thanks.
For Vista, do a google search for the updated Vista drivers. I think I found mine on ppcgeeks.com Once you have those, make sure that you flash with the unlocker first. (I don't know what the stock ROM is called for your phone)
If it won't respond, try again, disconnect, reconnect, enable USB, disable USB, DON'T GIVE UP! It IS fixable! If not, mail it to me.
Before flashing any HTC PPC on Vista, make sure you have Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 NOT 6.0 installed. If you have 6.0, uninstall it, dl 6.1 from MS, and install the newer version. When you want to flash, open WMDC and disable the USB connection. Also running the OEM update as Administrator helps avoid potential problems. These things don't brick. If it won't recover from the flash, you may have to serial in it.
