Apparently because the Z780's firmware does not access the UMTS 1700 frequencies that T-Mobile uses. It won't even show the T-Mobile 3G network in the list of available networks.Originally Posted by frog37_

It's possible to manually remove all t-mobile customization using a2uploader which gives access to hidden file system. Delete everything in directory /tpa/preset/system/custom/ except .xml files - tmobile is gone. Credit topse.ru
Will this work on the newest firmware, or the early one? If the latest firmware, will this modification allow one to keep the T-Mobile 3G, allow access to the radio, the SE email program, and tethering? Lots of questions before trying it.Originally Posted by sashaohio
I have done it on the latest firmware, but it actually works on all the firmwares. All t-mobile branding is gone and it takes like 3 minutes to do it. For all phones based on a2 the customization files are in /tpa/preset/custom/ directory. Everything can be deleted, but DO NOT delete .xml files.Originally Posted by aaronforjesus
Its also possible to load flash menus, add sound drivers, new video drivers, make speaker louder etc. TOPSE.RU has all the instructions, some are in English. They have a crack for DaVinci client and flashing is also possible through Kulan Kendi (l/p: kulan/kulan) to download different firmwares off of their software.
By the way topse.ru also has a lot of firmwares, including 2 for z780 and 1 for tm506, the tethering one (r3ca...)
Doth it allow access to the radio and tethering on the latest firmware?Originally Posted by sashaohio
Thanks!
I just deleted everything in that folder except for the .xml files, the security certificates, and the .mp3 files. A2Uploader wouldn't let me delete the T-Mobile theme. Mostly what was left to delete were the hook files. I really don't notice anything different on the phone except that the right softkey is now for contacts and the left one is for media. The T-Mobile stuff is still in the menu, there still isn't a radio application or the standard SE email program.
To kill those files that are undeletable by A2Uploader, open Notepad and save an empty file to your desktop. Rename that file to the file you want to delete (e.g., rename whatever.txt to T-Mobile.thm) and then upload your file and overwrite the file on your phone. Presto, the file permissions are no longer read-only, and it's deletable.
Also, if you can grab the Z780 firmware and extract the menu.ml, you can replace the TM506's menu with the proper menu. Everything is still accessible and functional, but now flash themes will work properly with the TM506, among other things. The only thing I can't figure out is how to remove the T-Mobile Help icon (which now links to The Internet) and the T-zones icon (which still points to T-zones, so I guess it's OK).
Does this bring back the SE email client under messaging?Originally Posted by sashaohio
Im sure the answer is in these 16 pages somewhere but whats the final verdict on the TM506 and tether. If I get one can I tether using 3G to windows and a mac? Does mac only work over bluetooth??? Thanks

if the software version is not R3CA, you can flash to the version
Thanks for the info, I have 3 more questions.Originally Posted by Scottish Skyeandce
1. Is the R3CA a stable version?
2. Can you tether with a Mac?
3. Is this on the 5.99 T-Zones plan? If so, does the 5.99 T-Zones plan require configuring a proxy on the computer or?? Any annoying settings you have to change?
Thanks, I appreciate the help.
