I believe that I read that sometimes when you connect to iTunes for an update, it will reset your internet connection so that it will use the regular Rogers internet setting and some users received an unexpected surprise on their bill.
Also, as the aircard and the $30 for 6GB issue shows with Rogers/Fido, it is very easy for the company to know what device you're using by looking at the IMEI number which is transmitted everytime your GSM phone is authenticated on the network.
I think that it is a risk for anyone to try a $7 workaround when for $30, you wouldn't have to worry about anything on your iPhone. 6GB on an iPhone is practically "unlimited".
