The pricing is good. It's not as bad as Palm's strategy to get entry-level smartphone sales by undercutting horribly and taking losses to get marketshare. Marketshare that Palm won't be able to keep as they don't have many appealing products (Treo Pro is a big jump and an OS jump). But RIM has a good platform. Buy a Pearl Flip then upgrade to the Pearl Flip successor or go to a Javelin. It's not a bad deal. I would still liked to see a Pearl 3 with the same form-factor as the 8100 and Pearl 2 (8110, 8120, 8130) and the 4.6 OS.

I don't think I could be any LESS enthused about the Pearl 2 Flip.

I think the Kickstart(I still like the name) will be an either love it or hate it BB. But if you like the advantages inherent with the flip-design plus getting the newest BB OS then it's wqrth a look.Price-wise I thought it would be $50 cheaper across the board to compete against the Javelin but it's still a fair price.

And I can see the advantages, and the marketing behind it. I'm just a finicky s.o.b., and for some reason, never really liked the look of it.

I did consider this device early on but after seeing the Storm, I'm jaded.

It does look decent for that form factor, you have suretype, BB os 4.6, all the e-mail goodness, web browsing, all that that you can't really get in a razr or katana, etc...

I was on the fence about buying it until I saw it - and to add to that, it is so nice to finally have a BlackBerry that is compact!

    Amazon

Just saw it listed for $50 on Amazon. But it's unavailable right now. Wonder if it's just coming in.

I saw it at a T-mobile store yesterday - it looked much better in person than I expected. I thought I wouldn't like it based on reviews I had seen but it isn't bad - really nice looking screen, not as big and clunky as I expected. The things I've been reading about the trackball being a little difficult to use are valid but it didn't seem as big a deal as the reviews I read make it out to be - I think it's just a matter of getting used to. I may be porting back to T-Mobile from AT&T due to network issues and it will be this or a G1 if I do.

Some people - like me - like flip phones for the size factor. And for me they hold up better physically.

Ordered a flip - the functionality I need is there.

It's now *free* at Amazon after rebate. Wow.

But: they're requiring a minimum data plan of $10 for email.

I was hoping to avoid that.

Just buy it from Walmart. $49. No rebate, but paying $10 extra a month for six months negates a $50 rebate anyway.
I've had Virgin Mobile, Helio, and Sprint-branded service. My quest to use all of Sprint's brands continues!!1?
