This really isn't very hard to do at all, I've done it a couple times now and each time takes about 10 minutes max. Just unscrew the four torx screws, unlatch and push downward the 4 spring clips holding the front bezel in place, and give the bezel a slight bend on the sides as it comes out to get it over the edges of the keyboard PCB. Once you get the front bezel off, then you can slowly rock the bottom metal chin off. The only difficulties I experienced was dust getting under the screen or on the actual LCD during reinstallation, and sometimes not aligning the top of the bezel tightly enough against the plastic body before swinging it down. Also, just be careful to bend the bezel out enough during reinstallation so that the clips go over the keyboard edge, those clips are pretty sharp and you don't want them scratching up the actual keyboard layer or damaging the edges of the keyboard PCB.
I've been following this thread with the hope of "fixing" my E71-2. We have two E71 phones at home (1 white (wife's) and 1 gray). In my phone, there is a slight gap between the metal frame and the plastic at the top portion of the phone. If you squeeze it around the speaker and the power button, you can see the gap opening and closing. This is actually my second E71 with this "defect". The first one had the same problem with a lot wider gap and Amazon replaced it immediately. Unfortunately, the replacement has the same issue (luckily not as bad). Wife's white E71 is solid all around (no gap anywhere).
Is there a way that I can fix this by opening the phone. Actually, is there a "quick" way of fixing this? Since you guys already opened and closed few E71 phones, you may have an idea what is loose and causing this problem.

Thanks in advance!
there are two tabs at the top of the front bezel that hold it down. One of the tabs is bent out a little, causing the bezel not to fit as tight as it should. You need to remove the front bezel, and use a screwdriver to gently press the tab in a little. You may need to do it a couple of times, making sure you dont go too far with the tab.

To replace the front bezel and lower chin, you only need to remove the 2 bottom T4 screws........
Wimbly, wombly or something like that. Now, why would that be, seriously? Unless you're a complete imbecile. And if you are, you shouldn't be disassembling phones or anything for that matter.
2 screws out, 2 screws in. Take your time, see how it comes off, it goes back on the same way. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the easiest and 10 being the hardest, it rates about a 3. Search for the service manual level 1 and 2. Read it, you'll see all the nitty, gritty details.
thanks. Im just more than a little nervous to take my baby apart, but since i saw the e71x in person i have been dubiously envious of the black steel so i gave in and bought the OEM full body black housing so it will be a little more than 2 screws in, 2 screws out
use a t6 screwdriver and unscrew the top 2 screws after u remove the faceplate. gently wiggle slide and pry till u can pop out the motherboard. the hardest part is removing the usb connector. just be careful and dont over tighten your screws when youre done!
