Why not buy the black steel front/back covers? www.cnn.cn now sells them too...
I'm quite tempted to purchase them!
that looks awesome and i'm real close to ordering.. the only thing holding me back is that it doesnt seem that they include that bottom metal part. i dont know how thats going to look. i'm thinking that the black faceplate is going to clash with the silver bottom tab

agreed...that silver bottom wouldn't be ugly, but it wouldn't look good.
Guys,
I have Googled/You-tubed and read all these posts so far but need a little more detail as to what type of holding mechanism attaches the lower fascia? I saw a close up pic a few posts back that showed it partially lifted. Could someone post a pic of it completely off? I don't want any surprises if you know what I mean.
I have had my Nokia apart many times swapping keypads but never had a reason to remove that lower cover.
My latest project is completely removing the innards of my E71-2 and installing them in the all Black E71-1 frame. The Black E71-2 is not even offered in the NAM version (yet). I think the Black is awesome and compliments the E71.
Thanks in advance
I ordered the White steel backing and keyboard from CNN.CN on Monday. Should be here in a week or so.
The white battery cover is sooooo much nicer than the grey (lines v. dots). Can't wait!
This thread will definately come in handy when I'm gonna be transforming my E71 grey to a grey/white hybrid .
P.S. I'm almost positive its a t5 screwdriver you need. They sell them at cnn.cn
Remember that the white battery cover is made of a much brighter metal, so it wont match with the front grey steel at all. I have already tried this out and its a nice cover but since it do not match the front, I am using the grey cover. I also have a white front lying around, but I have ordered the bottom antenna piece cover in white also. I will change all those parts when I have them all and can throw up some pictures on the result maybe.

I'ts acutally not attached really, once you have removed the front you can basically just lift it off. But whatever you do, do NOT try to remove it before you have removed the front, since the bottom part is pushed under the front and therefore its hold in place by it. Earlier I made the mistake in trying to remove the bottom part first and then the plastic on the bottom broke in two places.
I read the post. Still unsure. If I remove the 4 torx screws, you can just slide the bottom down and it lifts off?
Your pic posted in that post, the bottom part where you have those 2 small breaks. That's the part I want to remove.
The silvery bottom part or the grey part where the breaks are? The grey part is part of the phone chassi and to remove that you will need to do a complete diassembly of the phone.
If you mean the silvery bottom part (i borrowed rapidstars picture and paintet it, hope he doesn't mind):
You need to push down with either a skrewdriver or something else in the direction the arrows point, and in the exact place. Once removed the battery cover, you will se two metal pieces on each side (marked on picture) in the grey chassi. Those are part of the front piece, and once pushed down the front will pop out. But be careful not to push to hard. I do it by having the phone lying upside-down on a table and hold it steady, while gently pressing. Once the front have popped out, you can basically just lift the bottom part up. There is no need to completely remove the front, in order to remove the bottom silvery part.
But of course FIRST you must remove the four screws.
