Okey. Then you must diassemble the entire phone, cus that piece is the thing everything is attached to, it goes all way to the top. The motherboard etc, everything. I would replace mine to if I believed I could. I saw a complete official Nokia diassemble guide a while ago, can try to google it again. However, it was way to tricky for me... So I just have to live with that minor damage.

Thank you for the information. I kinda had a feeling it wasn't gonna be easy.
The silvery bottom part or the grey part where the breaks are? The grey part is part of the phone chassi and to remove that you will need to do a complete diassembly of the phone.
If you mean the silvery bottom part (i borrowed rapidstars picture and paintet it, hope he doesn't mind):
You need to push down with either a skrewdriver or something else in the direction the arrows point, and in the exact place. Once removed the battery cover, you will se two metal pieces on each side (marked on picture) in the grey chassi. Those are part of the front piece, and once pushed down the front will pop out. But be careful not to push to hard. I do it by having the phone lying upside-down on a table and hold it steady, while gently pressing. Once the front have popped out, you can basically just lift the bottom part up. There is no need to completely remove the front, in order to remove the bottom silvery part.
But of course FIRST you must remove the four screws.

hey rapidstar, (or anyone else that would know) was there anything else holding the LCD display in place. From the pictures is looks like you just need to disconnect the cable and lift the LCD out??
I just bought an E71 on ebay that has a cracked LCD. The price was right and I am not afraid to disassemble stuff. (I've replaced the screen in my n73, and I have completely torn down and rebuilt dozens PSP's)
Don't really know if this is the right thread for posting random pics on your E71, (if there is another thread for this, a moderator can please move this post over there) but here you go. I just recieved a new E71, the White one. So now I've got two!
The most obvious differences between those two is of course the colour. However, I find the keyboard a bit different to...
In those two pictures, you can see that the gap between the keys is much bigger on the grey version. Also, I find the white keyboard more comfortable, since it has a more soft feel to it.
I've ordered a new keyboard and coverings to go from old scratched up gray to white. My question is this; I noticed on the closeup pictures that there are characters on almost all of the letters. On mine (an e71-2) the bulk of the letters do not have a special character with them. If my replacement keyboard look like one of the ones you used, how can I program the phone to use those special character keys. For example, the letter O on the white keyboard you show has an = sign with it. My phone's letter O has nothing.
Just wanted to let people know that when removing and replacing the front plate, be very careful you don't cut the little connector between the main board (under keypad) and the volume/mute keys. I just did it on mine... it's very easy to accidentally press down and slice it.
How did you slice the cable? It at least a 1/4" from the front plate tab.

I'm talking about the connector on the side that connects to the keyboard. If the front plate isn't completely "slid back" it's likely that if you push down it will cut it.
Are you sure you didn't cut this cable when you took the front cover off? Did you use something sharp to pry the cover off?
I've had the front cover on my E71 off a couple times to remove dust and just recently changing the housing and the top front cover tab is not close enough to cut the flat cable for the volume/mute keys.
I can concur about that volume pad. It is flat but when you push the cover back on you can catch a small piece of the corner with the tabs. The cover will feel like it's stuck when in reality you are fighting this small sliver of electronics.
My 16 month old recently got hold of my gray e71 and fired it to the floor so I have recently accomplished (thanks to everyone here) a complete replacement of the gray to all white. I ordered all the factory OEM pieces from mytrendyphone.com and carefully made the switch. Aside from the rubber USB/SD cover (which they didn't carry, so I used the dark one from the gray phone), I replaced all the bases, covers, volume buttons and it worked great! To me the most sensitive issue was being careful not to strip the screws because your dead in the water if you do. I ordered a small screwdriver kit from the same place and it had all the T drivers I needed.
Patience and attention to where everything was on the original phone are key. The antenna at the bottom just slides easily into place. The vibration module fits neatly into its little compartment. Just remember the microphone and the small hooks at the top of the front cover that tightly hold the whole deal together. The keyboard hooks are a big deal too, but if you forget it is easy to open up again and adjust them properly.
I didn't take a video or anything, but I can assure everyone that it really isn't all that difficult. Now my 8 month old phone looks like a brand new white e71.
