ok, I found firmware, so which upgrade (or monster, but I don't know if verizon will re-activate it for me) should I use? I have bell upgrades 1,2,3, usc upgrade, aliant upgrade (but I'm nolt canadian), and alltel monsters, dst monster. Also, should I just flash it as I would a v3c? Or is there a special way to do it?
DST is the best monster for any Moto phone (well most, except where it doesn't support anything higher than 2 GB Micro SDHC)
And one more thing, you can follow the directions here, because while it's for the K1m DST, all the DST firmwares can be made to work on VZW the same way. Just remember to backup your 10.key from your Verizon filesystem and put it in the DMU folder when you've flashed over. (For data, but its good to have if you use Backup Assistant since GIN is SLOW over 1X)
If you read the Pro's of using the DST firmware, I'm pretty sure that's the one you'd want.
Here's a copy of info I posted on mobile-files about using the various Z6m flashes on the Z6tv:
I was the first one in that thread to try it and it definitely works. Although my profile says Z6m Alltel 02.0D.0DP, it is a Z6tv. Here are a few notes from my experiences with flashing the Z6tv:
Older Z6tv's that come with 01.16.0CP require the loading of the Z6tv monster bootloader before flashing to a Z6m monster every time, even the first time flashing away from Z6tv firmware. This is accomplished by starting the Z6tv flash and unplugging the phone when 'Flashing Code Group 2' reaches between 1% - 2%. Once this is done, pull the battery, put it back in, and restart in bootloader mode. Then flash the monster. I should boot up fine.
Newer Z6tv's that come with 01.31.00R firmware are able to be flashed directly to any Z6m monster the first flash away from Z6tv firmware. After the first flash away, it is necessary to follow the procedure for older Z6tv's above to get a flash to work.
The older 01.2B.xx firmwares like cricKet, DST, Movilnet, and Movistar work fine on older Z6tv's using the '1% unplug' method, but they tend to have problems on newer Z6tv's, ie they will pass in RSD Lite, but only load to bootloader. They can be made to work however by following the monster flash with the Alltel V9m 02.0C.18P upgrade.
Regarding this flash to recover the 01.2B.xx firmwares: some have reported it to work flawlessly the first time they try it, while it didn't use to work for me at all, but now works every time, since flashing to the Pelephone 01.24.0R Z6m monster.
Note: these older firmwares are not recommended to use as a base for java-enabled upgrade files like Bell or Aliant, as they tend to create unstable setups.
The USC firmware is not recommended, as it is a one-time only flash; the first time away from Z6tv firmware on newer Z6tv's only. After this they will not work at all. It's just as well, since the mp3 player doesn't work unless you're on USCC's network.
I've tried them all, and my favorite BREW-based flash is Alltel. It takes a little extra work compared to the DST to de-brand and unlock the BREW/Celltop crap, but worth it. It's the most stable moto ui setup and everything works flawlessly. It is also a solid base to go to java-enabled upgrades if you choose, even the Telus V9m, but then you get into issues with one thing or another not working properly.
Be sure to do all your backups on a fully-working Z6tv before flashing according to this guide:
This guide was written for the V9m, but it works with the Z6tv as well. If you follow the entire process exactly, you should have all data working, whether you need it or not. Even though I don't use it much myself, I like having it working.
I'd also recommend DST firmware because firmwares other than DST for both the Z6tv and V9m have been reported to cause call problems for some, i.e. being able to hear the other person while on a call, but the other person being unable to hear you. This actually happened to me when I was on the Alltel 02.0D.0DP firmware.
I'm currently on the DST 02.0D.0CP upgrade on top of the Alltel 02.0D.0BP monster with everything working, and no problems as mentioned above.
If you can get me the exact name/version of the flash whose bootloader is required for this, I'd be glad to try to provide a bootloader-ONLY flash so the risky unplug method is not needed.
They are all more or less the same except for carrier branding. I've tried them all and as I mentioned, my current setup is Alltel/DST and everything works, so that is what I would recommend.
Since you don't care about data functioning properly though, you might try the Bell upgrades, as they are Java-enabled. The downside is that EVDO doesn't work, and I can't remember whether MMS works or not. Get It Now will also not work, but you can load your own (free) Java games/apps onto the phone.
Great idea! I ran the idea across kbman awhile ago about the idea of hex editing the Z6tv bootloader over a Z6m flash bootloader to avoid having to unplug, and he said it most likely wouldn't work, and I didn't feel adventurous enough to try it. Any thoughts on this? Here's the f/w version and link:
Do I have to use the v710 game loader and the jad creator to load the java games on the bell as you would a bell v3c? And which firmware do I do the 1% or 2% removal before the other monster? Seriously guys, thanks for all the help.
My response to V3~157's question about creating a flash with a different bootloader was based on all of our past experience with prior attempts at this, which proved unsuccessful, but if DHowett has developed the techniques for doing it properly then I wouldn't want to say it's not going to work...
just that it hasn't in the past.

With the Bell Z6m, when you add your Java files to the phone's filesystem, you add a 'preinstall' folder in the brew/mod/jbed directory. Then you use BitPim to copy the jar and jad to this folder (you don't even have to rename to sx_suite.jar, etc., it will do this automatically when it runs it for the first time).
You can find out which firmware your phone came with by looking on the label underneath the battery. As I've already mentioned, if it came with the 01.31.00R firmware and you haven't flashed before, you can flash to any monster you want without having to do the unplug method. If it came with the older 01.16.0CP firmware, or the phone has been flashed before, you have to use the unplug method.

Didn't mean to imply that you discouraged me; I should have clarified that your answer was based on previous experiments
Anyway, interested to see what you come up with, DHowett! It would be awesome if we could build or own hybrid firmwares.
Thanks for posting that link. I was unaware that there was a newer DST flash.
Just flashed the upgrade. A word of warning, it reset pretty much all my settings and seems. I had to restore pretty much everything but my contacts, pictures, ringtones, etc...
