I have a iphone 3g 3.0.. i think (when i goto my somputer and right click and select iphone properties it says 3.0)

Currently its not letting me open the iphone to check the setings on the actual phone, it says FOR emergency's only...? Because It doesnt have a sim card...

I was wondering if i could use a tmobile sim card that came with a prepaid phone I bought or will i have too take my sim off my 3gs and but it in this 3G to UNLOCK and JAILBREAK it? Or can I JUST run redsnow with the tmobile sim even though it's not letting me make phone calls or access the phone?

what would be the best method to unlock/jailbreak it .... thanks

Run redsn0w and see what happens. If it still saying slide for emergency, then just pop your sim from the 3gs into the 3g and it should activate

UPDATE: for iphones on 3.1.2 to jailbreak use blackra1n, its as simple as the click of a button to jailbreak. To unlock use blacksn0w. Add the source blackra1n.com as aa source and download and install it and then reboot the phone and the phone should be unlocked. If using t-mobile make sure 3G is off if using a 3GS or 3G. I never had the 2G iPhone, so excuse my noobie questions..

My cousin's son was just given the 4GB 2G iPhone, and the service is TMobile.. The phone is locked to AT&T and FW is 2.1

I've been reading around in the limited time I get off from work [DBA], and I have some questions:

1) What's the latest FW for the 2G ?

2) Is the latest FW for 2G Jailbreakable and Unlockable ?

I already have downloaded QuickPwn 2.2.5 [ Windows ], and 3.9/4.6 Bootloader.

3) Like the 3GS, does Apple digitally verify the ISPW for 2G too ?

4) Where can I get a custom ISPW for the latest FW for the 2G ?

5) Does Bootneuter automatically get installed after running QuickPwn, or do I need to download it from Cydia ?

6) Can I use the same PC/iTunes I use for my 3GS, or use a different computer with iTunes not linked to any iPod/Palm Pre/iPhone ?

7) Anything else I need to know ?

I know some of these questions are very basic but I've been on call from my job and don't wanna mess up the kid's new toy!!

1. 3.1.2 is the latest firmware since apple has never changed the baseband eversince the 2.x firmwares, I havent been able to confirm on my own because i dont have my 2G anymore, The farthest i have tested is 3.0.1 and the jb/unlock worked perfectly, i used redsn0w for it, i think this answers #2
3. No only the 3GS is like that
4. Dont think you need a custom ipsw for a 2G because the baseband is the same eversince the 2.x firmwares. If you need it i guess google is the best way to find it, a lot of sites dont allow posting of those files
5. Not sure but from what i have heard once you install it, the unlock stays no matter what because of the bb never being updated like i hace mentioned. If you want jb 2.1 and install it and then restore and see what happens
6. You can use the same itunes/pc for the 2G
7. Nothing i can remember. Let me know if your run into a problem

Interesting discussion. I have just owned a new iPhone and for security purpose I have joined a iPhone backup service http://www.backupandshare.com to protect my iPhone data

Now my question is can anyone say wheather such backup services are reliable? Our data which we store on their servers is safe and is not misused. So it is safe to transfer our important files there?

Ummm, doesn't the itunes back up your data? I've never been a fan of backing up my data to anything other than my computer. Once the data leaves your computer you have no clue what will happen to it (no matter how safe they say it is).

That service seems good but, like scruffyguy said, itunes does backup your info, but i giess its always a good thing to have another backup to the one in itunes in case something happens to it

Hello guys and gals.....
I broke my 3G-3.1.2 using Blackra1n. This works great but "cydia" sucks! I downloaded a theme and crashed my phone. It booted me into safemode and then wouldnt let me back into cydia. So, my question is which is best cydia, rock, or icy?

Put the phone into recovery mode using ziphone or iliberty+ and then once itunes detects the phone in recovery mode hit shift and restore and select the 2.1 software file and it will work, they already released the jailbreak and unlock for the 2.2 software
