    No. you can keep it and get the cheaper plan for the G1. once you go over the 400 texts, it will start pulling from the unlimited

    Beyond that I think you can move the to $20/month data plan if you already subscribe to another SMS plan.

    Is this confirmed? When I did a mock checkout for a G1 on Tmobile site, it said my current data plans will be removed from my account. Im afraid the grandfatherd $10 SMS will be removed and it would be a ***** to get them to fix it.

    @derekedw,

    What $20 plan are you referring to? Where would you add it since you only have (2) choices on the G1 site.

    I asked about it to a rep and that's what they told me about the 400 texts and then getting the texts pulled from the unlimited.

    That's honestly a ridiculous answer though(From CS). That's like ATT trying to sell you on Rollover minutes when you get unlimited minites. I still have a feeling the $20/month package will work if you already have an SMS plan. Knowing T-mobile they aren't going to be big sticklers on this.

    But again..nobody really knows for sure. Apparently not even the T-mo reps

    The rep i spoke with said you dont even need data...I also have a feeling the total internet will work with the G1. Confirmation will be coming within the next few weeks though either way.

    I believe the phone part works fine without a data plan. XDA-Devs users have already boot the G1 into safe mode and tested out. Everything works except GMail, sync, and market.

    To the OP, you get to keep your Family unlimited text plan. The $25 G1 unlimited data/400text will be an add-on to the account. Once you deplete the 400 text messages, your Family unlimited text kicks in. Yes, you are basically paying extra for 400 text messages you don't need. As ridiculous as it sounds, this is exactly what I was told by CS.

    Is it the same for the $9.99 unlimited text plan?? That's the one I have and I want to keep it! Seriously $25 for 3G sounds good...

    So then you have to rely on WIFI? No data= no browsing/street view/etc right?

    I only provided answer to the thread above.

    I know it's useless to get this phone without a data plan.
