After reading this thread a few times and researching other forum posts, I've started hacking my Epix to make it more usable.
4. No e-mail notifications after screen goes dark/standby: I have tried SEVEN (too basic) and am currently using Flexmail, and the problem exists with both of those e-mail apps as well. SMS and the data connection re-connecting always wake-up the phone from standby. I think I understand that some people that are using phoneAlarm or S2U2 with mixed success as a "fix" for the issue?? Also, would I use the QVGA version of S2U2 on the Epix?
No fix yet although Samsung says one is coming. I use Dr. Morley push email for $5 a month. GREAT SERVICE! Do a search on xda-developers.com
5. The useless LED light: I would expect the LED light would continue to blink at various intervals after receiving an SMS, missed call, e-mail, etc. until cleared. For me it only blinks for a few seconds. I read elsewhere that phoneAlarm makes the LED more useful. There's also an "LED notification fix while device on standby" utility by zenkinz in this forum thread http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=100305&st=70 which is on my list of apps to try.
This works for me - sort of. The light will blink forever until you check your mail. It works - but annoying. I'll use it as a stop gap until a real fix.
7. Protective Case: I can't seem to find one. The Zagg InvisibleSHIELD http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/...ns-shields.php looks like it will help prevent scratches, but will it cushion the phone enough to survive a few-foot-fall to the hard pavement?
Ordered one tonight - I'll report back
8. Other tweaks and setting changes: Heard about TouchXperience Advanced Configuration Tool http://touchxperience.com/en/advance...tion-tool.html on the WMExperts podcast. Looks like a simple program to customize the phone without the need for registry mods. Anyone using it on the Epix?
Have used this app since it was .1 Beta. Love it and it works for all the phones I've ever used it on.
2. Finger Mouse Toggle: player911 mentions "chgFingerMouse for quick Dpad-to-Mouse swapping." I coudn't find such an app, but in #369 he later mentions MouseOnOff.exe - a hidden file in the \Windows directory. Using File Explorer I tried to remove the "Hidden" attribute so I could map the calendar button to it using AEBPlus. But AEBPlus won't see hidden files. I ended up copying MouseOnOff.exe to my computer, removing the "Hidden" attribute, and copying it back to a new folder I created in \Program Files then used AEBPlus to re-map the calendar button to the file located there. Any other ways I could have done that?
Actually "chgFingerMouse" isn't an app you'll find on your device as it was user created. The "MouseOnOff.exe" is simply the app from the Settings menu.
chgFingerMouse is an app that will instantly switch between Dpad and Mouse mode. There are no popups, windows, checkmarks, or anything. When mapped to a button, will simply switch the mode when pressed. I've uploaded it several times here in this thread.
Also using the Fuze, I've noticed AT&T did some pretty hefty modifications to the dialer program. I don't know if they work on the Epix. I've researched dialer apps and they all seem to be scalable. I wouldn't recommend installing it unless you're prepared to erase your phone in case it doesn't go well. I can't test it because the Wife has the Epix now and she'd kill me if I had to erase everything.

weird. it doesn't seem to do anything different than the Epix dialer.
I installed it to the device, but there was no new program shown in programs.
looked through the file system and didn't see anything there either. Tested Phone and Contacts app, both seemed to work but didn't seem any different.
Checked remove programs and it was listed there. so I rebooted, tested again and still no difference, so I uninstalled.
Next I reinstalled to the card and it created a \windows folder there. Looked at XML and saw name of executable. Ran it, looks just like regular Phone app. Tested it, and it works and all, but just not different, so I uninstalled again.
I think Player911 is trying to get something like these screenshots.
Frankly, that dialer is great for a touchscreen-only device or a QWERTY slider device. I like the default dialer on the Epix much, much better for keyboard-only use. It only has one bug though: You cannot access the Call History from the keyboard; you have to show the touch keypad and then touch the Call History button before you can access stuff like the Call Timers.
I made a fix to the XML so that the email fits on the envelope (A better fix would be making a bigger envelope). Anyhow here is the XML Backup you could use the Manila 2d Customizer to restore.
Anyhow, I was curious as to who is running Manila so we could collaborate on some tweaks.
There are 2 major things I would like to get done.
1. Get the email up/down buttons working like they do in the SMS screens.
2. Change the font colors on the home screen.

FTouchSL question: Has anyone noticed that FTouch SL sometimes "forgets" the applications that are excluded and you have to go remind it? Anyone seen this and know how to fix it?
I followed those instructions and Manilla is a mess on my phone.
1) The various menu items never go away.. For instance, if I select people, internet, then go back to home, i see both the people screen and the internet screen in the background. the result is lots of garbled text.
2) Icons hang off of the bottom of the screen
3) I can't find any way to clean up some of the unnecessary icons. (I'll never use the 'weather' or 'map' icons

HELP
I have found it helpful to have a minimum number of tabs. Having 7 works for me. If they are items you don't need slide them to the end.
