The Incite has the same processor as the Fuze (528mhz Qualcomm). The Incite sports the same amount of Rom/Ram as the Epix. The Epix has the fastest processor at 624mhz.

So you're downgrading the processor speed for:
    a larger screen
    no QWERTY keyboard
    small battery

Watch the reviews on it. All the reviews I've seen say they don't like it. Something about the touchscreen being finicky or something.

Also you have to look at the developers. Samsung ALWAYS provides software updates and at least 1 OS upgrade. This is important. We've never had problems cooking roms either. The process on an LG is a mystery.

I also use the new Fuze... but even having an actual keyboard under the slider sucks once you get used to the Epix/Blackjack style. I find myself having to use the onscreen keyboard to make small changes and it is horrible. The Fuze doesn't have tactile feedback (aside from the phone app). The Incite DOES have tactile feedback at least. The default keyboard is nasty, but that can always be changed.

If your looking at the Incite, go with the Fuze. Higher resolution, better camera, QWERTY, more memory, already has cooked roms. I had AT&T pricematch Walmart/LetsFly.com's $250 upgrade price which allows me to also use the $50 MIR = $200
i was an owner of the INCITE, and it sucks. slow as can be (even when running nothing). almost NO programs run on it (divx player, games, garmin, NOTHING) after just 3 days i returned it for the EPIX. great choice. WAY FASTER, i actually like the keyboard, and everything runs flawlessly so far, no problems yet. GARMIN GPS installed running great. skyfire internet browser is amazing. with the minor few bugs (increasing ring, sometimes a lockup, and other minor things like my 'messages' and 'calender' hot keys not finding the shortcut.) other than that, i wouldnt trade this phone for anything. i cant wait for some cooked roms and more hacks and tricks.

As you move stuff around in the Start menu, shortcuts might become broken. Just go in to Start, Settings, Buttons and assign those "broken" keys to something else, the reassign them to the intended shortcuts. Things should be back to normal.

I had the same error when trying to run TouchXperience Advance Config Tool. When I tried installing either .NET CF 2.0 or 3.5, it won't let me. I get installation unsuccessful error. Anyone got this installed?

EDIT: Alright, I found a good source to install .NET CF 3.5 on the Epix. I think this install is modified to work with the Epix. Click here to download.

Also, there's a new site at http://www.mysamsungepix.com. Looks like they are trying to compile all mods/hacks/tweaks etc on that site. Might be good to start posting things there so we get a good database.

    TouchXperience Advanced Config Tool

I've installed this on my Epix. Most of the registry edits are available, but not all. For example, I've been wanting to turn on the video call feature on my Epix, but the option's not there. The list of features outlined on the website has a lot more stuff than what is currently available on the Epix. I wonder if this has something to do with how it was set up by AT&T. If someone can get this working, please let me know. I really want to use the Video Call feature (outside of US obviously).

I've got an Incite and I like it. If you check phonearena.com or ATT's website you will find other that like it. I don't find it sluggish, nor do I find the touchscreen to be that bad, though its not an iPhone (but then again nothing else is). I tried the Epix since I've been a longtime Blackjack 1/2 fan but found the optical pointer to be less than desirable and from following this thread have been amazed at the degree of modification people have had to do with the Epix to provide a layout they find acceptable. I've pretty much liked the Incite straight out of the box and most of its issues can be laid at the feet of the aging WinMo OS and not the Incite (IMO). Yeah, DIVX and Skyfire don't run on it, but hten again I don't think they were set up to run on 240X400 hardware (at least at this point...do they run on the Omnia?). However, google maps and windows live work great and I really like how they look and run on this device.

I guess what really strikes me funny is the degree of polarization this thread engenders: "Incite SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Epix RULEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I like the Incite and it does what I need it to do and its a step up from my BJ2 and enhances my WinMo experience. The Epix did not seem like much of an improvement and I really didn't like the optical mouse..I don't HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it, I jsut don't find it to be the device for me. All of them have their idiosyncrasies and all of us have our preference. I don't like bricks (Fuze) and I didn't want to wait for the X1. I don't care that the Incite is mostly plastic (OMG!!!!!! PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!! AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but for heaven's sake, its a phone, not a coffee pot. Anyway, I tried all three and picked what I like, they all have their merits and demerits, but do we really need to discuss it in terms of LOVE and HATE? It seems like I'm listening to my 4 year old sometimes.

Oh, feel free to flame, but I just had to say something about in response to the Incite haters who seem to be spending the bulk of their lives tweaking their Epix's (nudge nudge)

Has anyone figured out a way to silence a call when it's coming in without ignoring it? With the old Blackjack, you could hit to rocker on the side, and it would silence, but not ignore the call.

    Thanks

Yea, hit one of the volume keys on the side. Works for silencing a normal ring and when in vibration mode. It doesn't ignore the call. Don't forget that if you used AEBplus on your device and configured those buttons for something else, it probably won't work.

First, this is a forum about Epix, obviously people here like it more than any other phones that are currently available. Somewhere along the line one guy points out that AT&T released another PDA phone called the Incite to make everyone aware of possible alternatives to the phone. I found myself curious and checked the local store to play with it. In my honest opinion, the touchscreen was horrible for finger use, which is what its UI is designed for. Using it with the stylus is another story.

Just so you know, no one "hates" it. I think it's a decent phone, with mostly the same features as the Epix. I just can't stand the so-so response out of the touchscreen with finger use, with no alternatives such as a keyboard.

By the way, as far as modifying how it looks and how it operates, the reason we do it, is because AT&T locks down a bunch of features that could and should be available to customers who purchased this phone. Plus Microsoft is using 128DPI (on all WinMo devices including the Epix and Incite) for the display. Try setting your computer monitor to 120DPI, or just change the resolution one notch lower and see if you like it. Everything looks bigger than it should, and you can't fit anything on your screen.

Anyway, all I'm saying is we do what we do because we think that it will improve the device. It's like installing and using Microsoft Word over the default Notepad/Wordpad in Windows. Not having Word doesn't make your computer "crappier". It's just less efficient when you need to write a paper. In any case, if you still want to use that notepad to edit your paper, we won't stop you. We might laugh at you, but we won't complain.

People have different opinions, and you shouldn't get all worked up because we happen to think the Epix is better than the phone you have. Anyway, I'm guessing if you think your Incite is good out of the box, obviously you must not have had unlocked WinMo phones, or any other world phones for that matter? I pity you.

I guess you didn't see the humor in my response and decided to assume I'm some sort of fanboy newbie whining about my new toy. I've been playing with this stuff since the original 512kb Palmpilot and my first smartphone was the Audiovox SMT5600 (great phone for its time, and yes I know it was made by HTC). I did have an Audiovox PDA ages ago that had a special cable that allowed it to connect to the Audiovox phone I had (model name escapes me at this point) and that was a real kludge that screamed along at the equivalent of 9600 kbps on the analog network of that era (and oh the data charges).

I've hacked many of my phones and spent a lot of time at XDA trying different tweaks. What I'm trying to comment on is that people need not take such a polarized view of the different phones. They all have issues and they all need some massaging. What I was alluding to was the fact that the Epix seems to have many issues that really bother users right from the get go that were not really present in the BJ1 and 2 which really only required modest tweaking to make very functional.

Yes I know there are significant differences between the smartphone and PPC software, but really the Epix is an extension of the Blackjack into the PPC platform and it should have been far more polished out of the gate and not require so much modification to really make it shine. I'm sure once everyone here fully cracks it open, it will be a far better device (though you will never get me to like the optical pointer...I really think they missed the ball with that).

Good luck making the Epix into your uber-device; of course until the next big thing rolls around and everyone abandons ship since none of us really shows that much loyalty to any of these devices anyway (we just love our gadget porn after all). I can imagine a great wave of movement towards the SonyEricsson X1a when it most likely arrives sometime next year...I can just see the comments: "boy, I thought the Epix was great, but the screen on the X1a kicks its pathetic 320x320 butt...my god what was I thinking 6 months ago..."

Just trying for a little levity guys...lighten up! If I wasn't interested in what was going on with the new toys we are seeing, I wouldn't be trolling the non-Incite threads to see what's going on. If you don't want me to spoil your party I'll just stay away and eventually look at post #3,297,206: "I think I finally got Manilla2D to work with the 96 dpi setting and the non-increasing ringtone while standing on my head with my phone cocked at a 27 degree angle!!!!!!"

God I'm annoying!!! Put the keyboard down!

No I've never once had a problem with this...it might be your hardware. Do a hard reset (backup first) and see if the issue goes away. If not, time to call AT&T (within 30 days of purchase) or Samsung (after 30 days)

Mine rejects calls when I hold down a volume key.

    Hi,
I have been trying to keep up with this thread, but mostly I am just confused.
I like the RL Today theme that Player posted. I have the RL part installed. The resolution isn't right, and I don't think the theme is working. I copied the files over to my /windows folder. I copied them without them being in a folder first, and that didn't change the look of the screen. I then copied the entire "Diamond" folder over to the /windows folder. That didn't change the appearance either.
I have the "RL Today" clicked in the TOday items menu.
Where do I select the them that he made?
How do I make the screen resolution right?

I tried doing the manilla stuff too, but couldn't override the .xml file that people kept updating. It keeps telling me it is read only. I tried changing the properties to be not read only, but it wouldn't let me.

I just want to get a more functional today screen that I can change the image files to something that I like. I like pink, so if someone can point me in a direciton where I can download a pre-made pink theme let me know please.
My hubby created a theme for my blackjack, by just changing the images in someone elses theme. I figure I can do the same.

Thanks for all the other helpful things everyone has posted. I'm learning alot.. just a little overwhelmed!
