Hey im doing the hide sim contact trick from the registry. But my problem is that when i turn off my phone and turn it back on, they show up again and i gotta change the registry key again. Am i doing something wrong? It not a biggie because it only take 5 seconds to do and i dont ever turn off my phone, its when my phone locks up or freezes that i have to do it.
Talk about Deva Vu! The same thing happen to me last Wednesday. I experience the issue 4 times that day. Then it happened again on Friday morning. I always use my cell phone as my alarm, so I was late for work because of that. I did a hard reset and I'm hoping the hard reset will fix the issue because this is driving me crazy. The apps I have are AppUnlock, PHM Regedit, Skyfire, Opera Mobile, and Goggle maps.
I notice my Epix does the same (locks up, need to pull battery out) whenever I try to unlock the keypad at the same time when an email comes in (either exchange or imap). First the screen would freeze, then I'd lose my screen and then nothing...
Sorry to derail a little bit, but I wanted to share a story I had yesterday with my Epix.
For some reason I got a few emails from folks saying they couldn't get through to me on my cell. Sure enough when I tried to call myself from a landline it would either go straight to voicemail or give me a "all circuits are busy" message. Outgoing calls worked fine.
I had been messing around with Manila 2D and some other things earlier in the morning, so I figured I'd been overdue for a Hard Reset, so it did it (twice) to make sure I was starting from scratch.
Sure enough -- same problem. I put the sim into some other phones I had laying around, and no problem there -- so it wasn't that.
I then took my wife's Tmo SIM (I am on ATT), and put it in my Epix. Sure enough I could call out and receive calls -- so didn't seem to be the phone.
So I threw up my arms and called ATT. After working with the customer service rep, they concluded that it was because the cell towers in my area were overloaded and I would just have to wait -- however, after I politely nudged that I had no problem with other phones sitting right next to me on the same network, they escalated me to what I assume is L2 tech support.
Once on the line with these guys, he noticed that my local routing number seemed off. I am a technical guy, but I'm not 100% familiar with mobile telecom, so wasn't sure how this worked. He worked on some things, changed some stuff on the backend and it finally started worked. He also explained that sometimes with newer phones and technology, if something is changed on the backend, sometimes a manual "nudge" is needed. (The other phones I was testing on was an old HTC Star Trek and a 2125) so maybe this is the case.
The reason I wanted to share is just wondering if anyone else has ever had a issue like this? I have been repeatedly calling my phone since yesterday to make sure it is still working, as I am leaving town for a week and don't want to lose my phone on the way. Maybe just paranoid since I am getting really attached to my Epix
On a separate note, I did ask the L2 tech guys about known reported issues on the Epix (such as the email notification bug, notification settings resetting after reboot, Outlook notes not syncing) and he pulled up nothing on their internal knowledge base page. He said for newer phones it usually takes a while for their database to be populated, and that I'd have better luck with Samsung direct on getting info on these bugs. So whatever Samsung is doing to fix the issues (if they are), are either completely on their own -- or ATT engineering doesn't really share with Tech Support (which being a manager of a Tech Support group in my company, I can feel the pain)
Sorry for the long post, but wanted to share.
Your problem with the local routing number thing...it always happens to me whenever I change my plan, do an upgrade, or anything else that has anything to do with my account. I always have to spend several hours on the phone explaining to the techs that some of the routing numbers need to be changed. Some techs don't even know what I was talking about. Some others insists that it's impossible. In the end, they tell me that "they have no idea how this would happen", but yea it's something they have to fix on their end. Anyway, I just thought I'd share my experiences.
toanv,
is that the CAB installer i posted? All it does is swap out the sound files.. hrm... I am using exchange email on my phone that forces PIN security so i cant do the auto-lock holding down the hang-up button to test it. Can you download the updated hack "Clean Startup & Shutdown" and see if it has the same problem?
Thanks
I have used both versions of the hack without lockup issues.
I have been enjoying this phone for about a month now and thanks to this great forum have addressed most of my minor issues, but one.
Has anyone figured out how to keep the backlight on the keypad on for longer? I recall the menu allows for 10 or 20 seconds but this is hardly enough when doing confernece calling or voicemail entries.
Also, I cannot figure out how to relight the keypad without pushing a key that types something. I appreciate any suggestions.

unless i'm missing something here, this is the same as going into Sounds & Notifications and disabling the "Display message on screen" option for email, voicemail, text msgs, etc. if you soft-reset or power off/on, the option value will change to 15 requiring you to go back and disable the display message option. am i missing something here?
Mine goes back to 12, not 15...which is still annoying...I hate having it pop up (slowing the device down) when I'm doing something else...
Anyway, did anyone ever figured out how to get rid of the notification?
So, has anyone looked in the back of an Epix behind the battery door and above the battery itself, that there is a little plastic sticker covering an external antenna jack? Now I'm just wondering what kind of plug will fit in there? And if this is a jack for the GSM/WCDMA or it's for GPS or Wifi? Any ideas anyone?
has anyone had a problem connecting to the internet? when i first turn on my phone, and sometimes randomly, i get the error dialing cingular.ims, or something like that, but my connection is pre-configured so i cant change anything, but then it will randomly work again? also, i get this message randomly saying "This is a forced SLOG DUMP" has anyone else experienced this and might know what it is?

It was not the 'Samsung silent sound' program that crashes as I still had the problem (phone turned off itself) after removing this program. I had to do a hard reset to resolve this problem. I slowly add apps back in and so far, I have installed: Google search/maps, skyfire, chgFingerMouse, PHM Regeditor, Clean Startup and shutdown with no problem.
