there's something that's been annoying me and i wonder if there's a hack for this.
while using 3rd party software (in my case, live search and a couple of others) the keypad defaults to fn lock. if i unlock it then perform some function, it automatically goes back to fn lock. its annoying because i have to continually hit the fn button to unlock it otherwise everytime i type something it comes out garbaldy gook.
I was at the AT&T store today and was messing with the HTC Fuze. The youtube quality of it was outstanding. I was about to buy it, but then I went to another AT&T store and tried the Fuze again and the video quality this time was trash. After doing some research, I realize that on one of the Fuze's I was running youtube with the actual youtube app the first time. The second time I just went to youtube through the browser. Huge, HUGE difference in video quality. I didn't know the actually youtube app could make such a difference. I know the Fuze has twice the resolution as the Epix, but if I get the youtube app on it, will I get video quality that good? If not, is there another way to get better youtube video quality on the Epix? I'd rather stay with Samsung if I can, plus the Fuze's battery life is nothing short of dismal. Add to that that the Fuze is almost twice as much as the Epix.

is there a setting or hack to fix this?
I have this same problem! its happened in a couple RSS reader ive tried, an RDP client, and some other apps thought i cant remember which ones.
I was wondering if anyone has tried installing S2U2 1.36 yet? I installed it yesterday evening (upgraded from 1.33 because 1.35 kept locking up on me). I thought things looked good (no lockups) for a while, and then I experienced something strange again.
The phone actually shut down right after recieving an SMS message and I invoked S2U2 to unlock and read! I promptedly went back to stable (at least for me 1.33) and haven't had the problem since. I am kinda bummed because it seemed to have some improvements in how it handled alarms and other stuff....
Anyone know anything about DataKeeper.exe?
It appears to be installed in ROM.
Reason I am asking is because for some reason my music playback (with WMP) has been pausing, so I have been watching the task manager and every time it pauses, I see DataKeeper.exe sucking up a bunch of CPU. What gives?
There doesn't seem to be a lot of info about datakeeper on teh google or even on teh hofo.

The YouTube app is do-able on any phone. I used to use a program called "vTap" on my blackjack. It would download the video first prior to playing it but was very fast on a 3G connection, maybe 2-3 seconds.
I've owned both the Fuze and Epix. Both good and bad. I owned the Epix first and LOVED it. The only reason I switched to the Fuze was because of the optical sensor the Epix uses for a Dpad renders most games unplayable.
Well the Fuze doesn't really have a D-pad either, although you might think it does. Basically the bottom portion of the fuze is a touchscreen that is separate from the primary screen. Basically what it does, is senses where your finger is located when you press down. Well the whole surface is smooth, so quite often you'll find yourself trying to press Left/Right and end up back at the today screen.
Also the Fuze lacks any real hardware buttons when closed. The Volume rocker suffers the same fate as the Epix with the placement causing constant unwanted presses which changes your volume levels/vibrate/silent modes. Very annoying. Back and Home buttons aren't mappable without consequences. And the PTT button is a pain unless you find a good work around which involves creating special shortcuts and placing them in the Windows Folder.
Luckily the VolFix.zip I posted in the Epix thread fixes the volume rocker and assigns Page Up/Page Down characteristics.
Most key problems can also be solved by a program called AEButtonPlus, but it is sluggish and must always be running to function. So I try to avoid it. The VolFix.zip I mentioned does a good job.
As far as speed is concerned. I find the Epix much faster. The, formerly Intel, Marvell 624mhz processor of the Epix completely destroys the 528mhz Qualcomm processor of the Fuze.
The Fuze also come packaged with a TON of bloatware from both AT&T and HTC. The Epix comes with a bare basic package. Even after stripping the Fuze down of all its extra packages, I still feel the lag of navigating through the OS.
With both phones, I have an especially hard time navigating the phone options. I think this is because of a lack of a D-pad or jog wheel. TouchFlo/FTouchSL finger scrolling, the VolFix.zip for Volume rocker page up/down, and a touchscreen STILL make going through your contacts to make a call a bigger pain then it should be. The Epix at least has the front keyboard so you can just type the first few letters of the requested contact so it narrows down your phonebook. With the fuze, I find it easier to open the phone app (Green Call Button) and type on the on-screen soft-keyboard Phone-Pad using my excellent skills from the original texting days. (666=MOM, lol).
The Epix pulls ahead in functionality thats for sure. The Fuze merely has a larger screen resolution and a G-Sensor (which is basically useless but fun).
The battery life sucks really bad on the Fuze. From taking the phone off the charger at 8am, the phone will be almost useless by bedtime with just making some calls and text messages. Some custom roms are better then others but don't expect sweet 3 days of internet use like the Epix delivers.
YES, Opera does work amazingly on the Epix, i totally suggest the download.
I use NetFront 3.5.
It doesn't render through a 3rd party server so you'll get MUCH faster speeds. Also the tab bar is displayed under the URL bar (like a desktop browser) so switching back and forth is a breeze (tap and hold links to open in new tab).
Double tapping will zoom all the way out to display the whole page, where you can double tap again to zoom in where you want. Pretty cool.

I removed DataKeeper.lnk from \windows\startup and the app isn't running anymore and the music stopped pausing. The changes survive a reboot and I haven't noticed any ill effects yet.
