My problem is that when I make the screen go dark(sorry don't know what it is called) I can't hit any buttons if required and it just seems like a pain right now. Hopefully I get used to it...
Have you experimented with Settings > System tab > Power > LCD Off tab? Mine is set for "Turn off LCD after call has been connected for (10 seconds)" If I need to access the screen during a call after it has automatically turned off, I just tap the "Space" key to turn it back on.
I use mRing, a custom ringtone/SMS tone manager, and calls start ringing at full volume. They have a trial.

Wow! Thank you for your reply. I am going to try that program and I hope it works for me. Thank you for the LCD off tab thing too. I never noticed that.
That will help me enjoy my Epix.
*edit* For some reason the Turn off LCD option was off. Fixed now
No, I haven't gotten it to work yet. RenoWireless explained to me that I have to use the groups like "unknown callers" and "known callers" to get the profiles to override the system settings. Going to try it now.
By the way... I don't know if many people are using RealVGA or if they already have this fix... but I edited a DLL to have the icons show up on the SMS and messaging apps correctly.
Well it seems it's too big to upload so if you need it PM me... and if you have a way to host it go ahead.
I've searched and searched for why the Epix keeps the backlight on while connected to a Bluetooth car kit. Touchscreen and buttons are all active too, until the battery dies from the backlight!

That seems weird. Have you tried using the sleep button on the side?
That is what I do when I am using my bluetooth headphones and it sleeps just fine. Why would it be any different using a car bluetooth than using headphones?
Does anyone know how to turn off the Phone's wireless data connection while still allowing the phone to make/receive phone calls and SMS?
I tried out the MoDaCo No Data app on the Epix to no avail. There has to be a way to allow users without data plans use WiFi for data access with out the threat of accidentally incurring data charges, all while keeping their phone working like a phone (sending and receiving phone calls, sms, mms).
I figure there have got to be some registry settings somewhere to prevents GRPS data connections from being established - thoughts?
Touch the signal bar on your task bar then Wireless Manager, click menu on the right soft key and choose Disconnect Cellular Data. That should do it. I have not tried it myself since I have unlimit data plan.
My experience has been that if you download AT&T Navigator and run it once, (you don't have to login and use the program, just run it), it configures the GPS and other programs will then recognize it. I couldn't use the GPS with GoogleMaps on the Tilt and the Moto Q until I downloaded AT&T Navigator and ran it once. On the Epix, Google Maps worked for me right out of the box though.
Ive been playing with GPS a bit lately and so far have been able to get almost instant locks. Like you, I had mixed results without the ATT install. Ive tried a few 780 drivers +registry setting but after a reboot, the active drivers never reflect the GPSIDRIL.DLL anymore. I've found a mix an match of registry settings plus the stock dll that works extremely. Hopefully I will have a cab that will satify enabling GPS after a hard reset and not have to go thru 10 steps to be able to use the device at full capability. The one I have now still seems to be a 3 step but hopefully I will have the time to play with it soon.
BTW, anyone able to get the \Windows\LCDtest to run?? I assume there is a command line param needed but havent been successful with it or the dialsequence. If you have an i780 or i900 version of LCDtest please shoot me a copy for testing.
I had a phone (don't remember which one) that I can just key in a phone number while on a call and as soon as I finish with the conversation, the keyed-in number is there for me to simply press the 'send' button to make that call. Can the Epix do that? I can't seem to find a way to do this. Thanks.
if you are having issues with the volume on the samsung epix or any newer samsung phones there is an audio control menu. Type this exactly
*#0002*28346# and the audio control menu will appear. Remember right down what every menu says before you change it. When you change something click menu and click apply. That should take care of the sound issues.
Has anyone tried getting RichesseGPS to work? GoogleMaps seems to work fine (via wifi...I have no dataplan yet). I've tried changing com ports, etc.....but nothing seems to get the GPS to work on this program.

I don't know that one, but I tried lots and lots and lots of GPS apps and most did not work on the Epix. What makes RichesseGPS special?
I use:
GoogleMaps (General Purpose GPS and Traffic)
Garmin Mobile XT (Detailed Topo Maps and Turn by Turn Navigation)
GPSed (Track Recording)
If you have it set for the longest duration to ring, volume rockers all the way up, set to a noisy ringtone, and even go into the advanced sound controls and bump those up... In my opinion, that should be more than enough to hear the phone ring despite it being increasing ring.
I've been reading this thread since its inception, and dealing with this horrible (in my opinion) excuse for a phone for a few months. I really appreciate all the help everyone has found and given, but I couldn't keep silent about this particular post.
It's a PHONE, first and foremost. It should ring, how and when I want it to, so that I can hear it, answer it and talk on it. I work in a business environment - I can't use some obnoxious ringtone, or have the phone ring at ear-splitting levels (once it actually gets there).
Bottom line is - it is a broken feature. It affects others, as well as it affects me. It is hugely aggravating. It's my own fault that I waited too long between the holidays and just general busyness in returning the stupid thing for something that actually works.
To date - here are the problems and my attempts at hacking the phone to work:
No email sound notification - I run an operations center. I get email 24 hours a day. I need to be notified when I get it, and when its sitting there waiting for me.
- Great. They half fixed it. Now I get a sound, but the LED still stops. Who are these programmers?
The increasing ring issue discussed ad nauseum.
- No fix for this.
The stupid, incessantly aggravating bubble that comes on screen when I have an email, which interrupts anything I am doing. This is what the light, sound, and icons are for.
-Can be turned off, but just comes right back after a reboot (which is often)
Random, and frequent lockups. It doesn't matter whether I have a clean install, or cluttered, this thing locks up like Windows 95. USUALLY, its when trying to run an app, like Google Maps, but not all the time. Several times, I've picked up the phone to find it entirely unresponsive. Still, this is a pocket PC. It's supposed to run apps. A soft reset button would be nice.
-Thought S2U2 was causing it; downgraded to 1.33, still happened. Completely hard reset, and didn't put it back on. Still happens.
The screen turns on for things like SMS, meeting reminders.... Why?? All this does is allow input.
-Install S2U2 to mitigate issue.
Those are a few. I also think the touchscreen is relatively lousy, the button choices weird, and I think the optical mouse is the biggest waste of real estate in the history of the phone. A trackball like the Blackberry, or a 4-way d-pad would have been loads more useful.
Anyone want to buy an Epix? I tried to like this phone. I had a BJI that I loved. The antenna started acting up, and this looked like the holy grail. I should have just exchanged it on week 1, but I procrastinated and hoped too long.
