@SCi2 - we all feel your pain on some of your issues. i call at&t weekly to first, praise their service reception, etc. and then very politely BMW (b**ch/moan/whine) about the Epix. they acknowledge the issues and offer alternatives, but nothing that i find acceptable.
i haven't experienced the frequent lock ups that you have, but the (poor) email notification and low ringtone volume is simply inexcusable. i wonder what corp suit decided to signoff on these two bugs/defects/features/mistakes etc. this "get it out the door and fix it later policy" in the name of profits really ticks me off at times. i could have returned it but at the time, it was the best (option) for my needs. ok, i'm off my soapbox.
to get around some of the shortcomings, i have a startup registry script to change notifications (e.g., kill the notification message, enable repeat notifications). during the day, i simply leave mine on and switch to EDGE only. i continue to use mine because its great at managing email, phone calls are loud and clear and i get good battery life (based on my usage). igo and TomTom 7 GPS works very good as well. it would be absolutely AWESOME if at&t / Samsung released a ROM to address all of these shortcomings!
Random, and frequent lockups. It doesn't matter whether I have a clean install, or cluttered, this thing locks up like Windows 95. USUALLY, its when trying to run an app, like Google Maps, but not all the time. Several times, I've picked up the phone to find it entirely unresponsive. Still, this is a pocket PC. It's supposed to run apps. A soft reset button would be nice.
-Thought S2U2 was causing it; downgraded to 1.33, still happened. Completely hard reset, and didn't put it back on. Still happens.
Call AT&T warranty to exchange. I had this problem but eversince I received the Epix replacement, I have not had any lock-up problem and I have installed some programs along with some Regedit hacks on mine.

That seems weird. Have you tried using the sleep button on the side?
That is what I do when I am using my bluetooth headphones and it sleeps just fine. Why would it be any different using a car bluetooth than using headphones?
Yes, headsets are ok in headset profile, it's the hands free profile which causes the trouble. Lock doesn't work even, it still lights up the backlight. It goes out after whatever timeout is set, then immediately comes back on again
Yes we all know the Epix has problems. But I think if you compare the features, price, form factor, and battery life to any other phone out there in its class, the Epix still come out towards the top.
If you live in a 500mph-paced lifestyle and demand everything to instantly work and be at your fingertips, the Epix is clearly not for you.
Actually i don't know what kind of problems you are having with the epix. but i am having none. it was quiet but with what i posted it fixed it. amazing phone.
seconded. that email pop-up is really annoying. after the random screen-turn-ons, it's my least favorite thing about the phone.
i like the phone, but like you guys i have my own set of pet-peeves about it.
1- no D-pad. partially solved by remapping volume up & down. I would never trade the mouse for one though. i love the mouse.
2- no way to auto-lock it when it sleeps. Well, that would be completely forgiven if it would just stay asleep. but instead it randomly wakes up. emails, texts, reminders, or for no reason at all. i think we'd all be ok with it waking up all the time if it would just auto lock. does slide-2-unlock autolock, btw?
3- leds are basically useless. this one is just unforgiveable. i'm the kind who likes to leave it plugged in while doing stuff around the house, etc. leds would be great when i walk by it. also, there are 7 colors and i've only seen 4: purple (all notifications), red (charging), green (charged), and blue (bluetooth). i would gladly pay for a program that fixes this and lets me assign the extra colors to different things, but nothing does. (phone alarm didn't work for me and it's terrible all around).
anyone got any solutions for those? don't say phone alarm.

Have you tried Zenyee Notif Blinker? Its a partial solution and its free - it keeps the LED blinking for up to 60 minutes i think (might be slightly longer, can't remember the max time). Youre supposed to be able to use all the LED colors though i've only tried the standard purple and red.

Sorry, but phoneAlarm is what I've found that let me have a blue LED for SMS, purple for email, yellow for missed call, etc. (i.e customizable colors for each alert) I think Notif Blinker only lets you choose 1 color for all. Though I can't get my LED to blink - it's just solid. pA has lots of options and settings, finding the right one's to enable and disable took some time, but it is now a good solution for me.
@Cortez - please post your registry script. I tried one for sounds and the Epix changed the settings back immediately after the script ran.

guys i don't have my phone at the moment so i can't post my registry script. 3 things you'll want to know: first, the process i use is importing a registry file on startup. second, i'm using the shotgun approach, e.g., importing all my notification settings and third, you'll be presented with a confirmation dialog box to confirm the registry import at each soft-reset. simply stated, all you need to do is:
(1) install a registry editor: you'll need this to create the export file and load the file when booting. i use Resco Registry Editor
(2) using a registry editor configure your notifications like you want them to work,
(3) once configured, using a registry editor, go to HKCU\Control Panel, tap and hold the Notifications key, choose export, select the \Windows\Startup folder on your device and click Save. NOTE: if you dont' want to re-import all your notifications, determine the key you want to import and choose that for export instead of the Notifications key.
(4) Soft-reset to validate that it works.
sorry for my delayed response.... i've been super friggin busy these days. hope this helps....
does anyone know a way to swap the Epix for another phone by At&t, im trying to love this phone, i simply cant be pleased with it. Numerous little problems that dont bother me all that much, its a few big ones that bother me, 1 being when my phone is ringing, ill hit the answer key but it never recognizes, i have to double hit it if i want it to answer, same with the hang up, my main one which is driving me crazy, is the lock up, and im not talking screen and nothing working lockup, it seems to be like a network lockup, i can use all my apps, do everything, but no calls or text messages are coming through, which i have no idea about, until i restart my phone and then i get mass number of voicemail, and text message alerts. i simply cant go everyday restarting my phone periodicly to check if my phones working. im over the 30 days, but i have insurance, and this phone is not meeting my work needs. is there anyway to swap phones with at&t without having to pay full no contract price?
