I'm just sticking with the Organizer Alarm now.. it never failed on me in the past. I liked (for the one or two times it actually worked) how I could use a custom music playlist in G-Alarm, and the big touch snooze button, but not at the expense of having it lock up the phone and neglect to alert me day after day.
the organizer alarm hasn't failed me so far as well...it works great and is quite easy to use.
I was in the process of switching over to a 2g iphone but after thinking it through i just might be sticking with the epix. Even though WM is getting a little old, i'm still hooked on it.
Anybody else use skyfire? Its a really nice web browser compared to Opera 9.5 Beta and IE mobile. One of the thing's i love about skyfire is it has Flash, both Opera and IE mobile dont support flash.

I've found SkyFire's performance to be less stable than Opera's or IE's. Sometimes it will loose connection to the server and have to reconnect between web page loads, making for an annoying experience. When it does work it's nice though.
Opera and IE offer a much more solid performance I think, and I really don't need to go to pages with flash that much TBH.

Sorry to double post but I can't seem to edit my previous post.
So I've definitely decided to keep the Epix, and I'm taking back the Fuze today. However, with my recent experience with the HTC device, I've gotten sort of "re-invigorated" about tweaking the Epix. That being said, here is sort of an idea of what I want to do:
Improve RealVGA hack. I've already fixed the icons in messaging/threaded SMS and the in-call screen/dialer background not fitting. I want to continue to improve this so that RealVGA is better for the Epix (enlarged dialer keypad is the first thing I think of). I will post this later tonight (what I have so far)
GPS Tweaks. Basically improve the GPS performance and lag... based on tweaks learned from XDA. I'm going to test this this afternoon and post.
Performance improvements. Various adjustment to how the system caches programs and other things to get the phone to be even quicker.
Get email notifications AND non-increasing ring working. Somehow reconcile the changes in wavedev.dll from the two patches.
Display HSPDA icon (small fix). I also want to find out if there is a way to improve radio performance without flashing a radio upgrade.... probably not...
Get multiple button presses working. This will probably never happen as it's just a hardware issue I'm sure... but it would make gaming (especially emulators) sooo much better. For the record, the Epix runs genesis/SNES ROMs SIGNIFICANTLY faster than the touch pro
I will post later tonight with some CABs after some testing. Does anybody else have suggestions for fixes/tweaks, and/or especially interesting in helping me with something in particular?
So apparently you can't edit your post after a certain time... so here's my third post in a row!
Here is the improved 96 DPI resource pack for real VGA. It fixes the icons in pocket outlook (like the threaded SMS icons and the messaging icons). It also fixes the background being the wrong size in the dialer and in-call screens (it now extends all the way down to the bottom). Also, the start of some basic performance tweaks (increasing the FAT file system cache and icon cache), and a few convenient shortcuts (in the tools cab) such as soft reset, radio admin, wireless manager, and new blank text message. The GPS tweaks didn't really make much of a difference, but I'll include them anyway. I wouldn't recommend using them however because they will increase battery drain with not much of a performance increase.
There's also the application unlock that is identical to the one found on mysamsungepix.com, but it disables that annoying warning when installing unsigned cabs.
And just for fun, all the stock HTC ringtones/alerts if anybody is interested. I found they have some good clean alerts that sound pleasant and unique.
These all worked on my Epix, but I don't make any guarantees, but let me know if there is a problem with any of these cabs (first time for me to make a CAB file). They all can be removed from the Remove Programs section in the Settings dialog (except the application unlock)

I get loose connections once in a while with skyfire but i still like it better than opera/IE M. Though Opera's browser does run alot smoother than Skyfire.

Thanks for sharing. Can you explain a bit about real VGA/96 DPI? I keft seeing people mentioning here but not know what's the difference? Thanks.

No problem. RealVGA is a hack developed over at xda that allows you to change the DPI settings of the device, and supplement that with modified system resources for the smaller size of the OS.
The hack has two parts 1) registry setting to change the DPI from 128 -> 96 and 2) the various graphics and DLLs that contain smaller icons so things will fit on the screen. You can do #1 only but then you're left with a lot of missing and not working graphics throughout the system. My modified 96DPI respack contained some missing icons for messaging and fixed the phone dialer / in call screen background.
128 DPI = default setting for Epix, nice large fat bars and icons. Makes programs/dialogs/taskbars/icons seem like the Epix is really just 240x240. Samsung did this to make sure things on the screen were really big and clear.
96 DPI = post RealVGA. Everything is smaller, dialogs fit on the screen better, and you feel like you just gained a lot of screen real estate. Of course if you have bad eyesight or you don't like everything being smaller, then this isn't for you. In this mode, the system will act like it really is 320x320.
With 96 DPI you have the ability to see more on the screen and use a lot of legacy PPC apps that would have dialogs hanging off the screen normally. I've been using is basically since I've had my Epix and couldn't go back. The OS does looks "smoother" with the default 128 DPI however. Just try it and see which you like. You can always un-install RealVGA and the respack and be back at square one if you dont like it.
1) Install RealVGA 1.1 and epix_respack_96.cab from my previous post
2) Run RealVGA from your programs menu, select 96 DPI, and DESELECT DISABLE PHONE SKIN!!
3) The phone will soft-reset... and you'll be looking at 96 DPI!
Your backgrounds/today screen layouts may be messed up depending on what you use, you'll haev to change them to accommodate for the 96 DPI if you want to keep using it. To undo, do the same thing except choose 128 DPI.
I got my Epix skin from www.UniqueSkins.com put on - its awesome. I didn't really like how the phone looked with the front skin on (in between the keys, around the screen, just didn't look sharp), but I have the 2 back pieces on and they are super nice! I definitely recommend them - very inexpensive too!

Sweet. With the screenshot and the ability to go back to original without a hard reset, I am afraid I have to try. Thanks so much.
Im running Manila 2d + RealVGA 96dpi and I dont know how someone could use Windows Mobile without this software!
Im looking into trying to get Touchflow 3d working. Does anybody know if there is a cab or two for non-Qvga phones? And I need to install the i907 driver on my new laptop, but you cant download it from Samsung? I cant find my original disk, someone point me to a link.

I think TF3D is for VGA devices and up (diamond, touch pro, HD, etc) but I'm not sure. And getting that to work would be an extremely difficult task. It's nontrivial to just get all the dependencies onto a non-HTC phone, but also getting it resized down to the smaller epix screen would be TOUGH! Check xda though... you never know.
And honestly... for the 2 weeks or so I had my touch pro, I turned off TF3D after a day or two. It looks amazing of course but it's not nearly as practical as other today screens... and it uses a lot of resources. I'm not sure why everybody wants to get manila 2D and 3D running on the epix/other non-HTC phones. I guess the grass is always greener and everybody wants to look like the newest and badest phone out there (in this case, the HTC phones).

I don't have a link... but with Vista I though I could just plug in the device and it would install drivers. Maybe you have to install the Windows Mobile Device Center / Activesync first. Can't remember. Just try that and see if it will work.
Also, I've been making some progress on tweaking the 96 DPI resource pack. The only thing thats messed up is the dialer is too small. Is there anything else you feel is messed up (that's major?) The blank icons in the control panel are no big deal to fix (just have to search for them), and the activesync progress icon (spinning green ball) is messed up, but those don't affect functionality at all. having a small *** phone keypad is annoying though.

I installed the RealVGA and the respack96dpi. The icons are smaller which is fine, but the text font (in the setting, task bar,etc..)is the deal breaker for me as I prefer the original font. It does not give me more space for the items I have in my homescreen. I have today plus, weather panel, calendar (same font as original after running 96dpi, no change here???), google search. When pressing the right soft key to open up my contacts, I can see the names, but phone numbers below the names are being cut off (cannot see the whole 10 digits). Those are a few of my observations. I am back to 128DPI. Thanks.
