Samsung Epix Hack Compliation and Findings

Who reads manuals? lol Anyway good find bsdgeek because I was thinking about how one would hard reset the phone if something were to break. With us doing all these hacks... it is good to know the procedure.

Anyway, I've noticed that using the latest HTCHomescreen.XML that my Email tab was all screwy and not proportional. I forgot I posted a patch on like page 3 that fixed this... but it was not included in the newer theme files. So I edited the latest HTCHomescreen.XML that was best working, and made adjustments to the Email tab.

I'll upload the XML, and both updated versions of the Yellow and Blue Theme.

I thought the screwy email tab was just me after all the hacking I'd done.

I stand corrected. I found this tonight. Actually syncs notes to Exchange OTA. I ran into the same issue you were referring to with "local" notes syncing, but being an Exchange user, and for those others that may read this, I'd thought that I would put this out there:

in case anyone is wondering, you can enable/disable 3G by dialing *#1546792*# , Select Network Call Setting, then Network Mode. Auto enables 3G, GSM turns it off. you can also access this feature by launching the file \Windows\Admin.exe. during the workday, i like to disable 3G to conserve battery. fyi, i found this on the attwireless forums.

I saw that the earlier. I could never understand why you would disable 3G. Sure it saves battery, but unless you forget your charger or something... I'd just leave it on.

I've been on mine all day since I bought it... and it seems to last quite a long time. That coupled with the fact that the screen can't come on like my old blackjack. I've been using Slide2Unlock2... which is nice. It seems to disable the screen faster then before (which kept the screen on pretty long before timing out).

The bad thing was S2U2 kept turning on while watching videos online with Skyfire over 3G. But whatever.

The HTC Homescreen Manilla 2D I feel is complete. Everything is lined up and works great. S2U2 worked out of the box.

Right now I'm trying to get the keyboard driver from a Blackjack 2, "keypad.dll" in the Windows directory. Hoping it will fix a few shortcomings on the Epix. I have all the registry keys... but I just need the actual DLL so I can register it and see if the problem with only being able to accept 1 key input at a time is a hardware or software problem.

Fixing the keyboard is my main to-do.

i have a couple of clients whose offices are in fringe 3G coverage areas and, if i leave 3G enabled, the phone will work like hell to hold the 3G signal and eventually drain the battery faster. then there are times when i'm on 2-3 flights in a day with limited access to a charger so i try to preserve as much battery as i can. it's just habit now; who knows, maybe i can break the habit with this 1800 mAh battery!

Greetings all; I just joined the 'Epix Funwagon'

I appreciate all the posts seen so far; looking forward to trying what the gurus have posted here.

Couple of quick questions: my device has the at&t logo below the keyboard and the samsung logo is silkscreened below the touch surface of the screen.
All the online pics I have seen have the at&t logo there and the Samsung logo below the earpiece. What is yours like?

Also, the button next to the MediaNet has the CV (cellular video etched) and not the calendar icon.

I am curious as to whether there are different h/w s/w revisions circulating around.

The About applet shows CE OS 5.2.19959 (Build 19959.1.2.1)

My version applet shows

Wow.

Mine has the Samsung at top of the screen and AT&T at the bottom of the screen. I have the MediaNet key and the Calendar key. No CV key.

My Version is:

So I see your CE Version is older and you are also running an older PDA/Phone version.

Where did you buy this? From an AT&T store? I'd exchange it. No sense buying a new phone with older software.

I wonder if there are any other releases?

That logo placement sounds sort of like the Blackjack 2. Can you post a pic?

I don't get the x button. but the battery meter works along with other options of Pocket Plus.

I'm not using the x button feature in Pocket Plus, I use HandySwitcher instead, so I haven't even activated that feature.

But has anyone else noticed just how slow this device is, particularly since it has a 624mhz processor? I'm using a 16GB microSDHC card and only have programs that must be installed into RAM and it's still sluggish.

And the touch screen is driving me insane! No matter how many times I try and calibrate it, it's simply not sensitive enough at the edges of the screen so I can't seem to move the scroll bars with the stylus no matter what I do.

I hope Tweaks2k2 or one of the other programs comes up with a program that will help this, but I'm not optimistic.

Finally, has anyone here managed to actually app unlock their device? I've tried a couple of programs, soft reset, but still get that annoying message asking me if it's alright to install programs.

I guess I am running some sort of pre release unit.

The optical mouse panel and surrounding buttons are also black, not metallic as the units I see in the other pics. Actually I kinda like it. Perhaps I can eventually flash it to the later ROM somehow.

just got my epix and enjoying it so far.

Gonna get to work on Manila next.

have a couple questions:

1. Can we figure out how to adjust the sensitivity of the 4 way touch pad?
with i could make it more sensitive so it scrolls faster with one swipe.

2. Anyone able to bet realvga 96dpi workings properly?
Whenever i install my phone and contacts stop working.
