Use S2U2... the iPhone-looking Slide 2 Unlock program.

At first I didn't really like it, but once I removed it, I found out how nice it is. Here's why:

The Power and Backlight settings only go off after a MIN of 1min. So I found my phone sitting there for a minute with the power on. I also found, on several occasions, that the phone would start vibrating like crazy in my pocket. Pulling it out to reveal the screen somehow came on and was launching apps while in my pocket.

This is where S2U2 comes in. It overrides the power and backlight settings so I currently have my backlight turn off (and S2U2 turn on) after 10sec, then shut the screen off completely after another 5sec (15sec total). Boy does it make a difference in battery life.

Also if the phone *does* happen to spring back on, it'll be stuck at the S2U2 screen, where after 5 seconds it'll turn back off.

Plus the S2U2 is very visually pleasing. I love the way it looks with the huge clock and the way it presents missed calls, messages, emails, weather, etc.

I don't know what causes the screen to randomly come back on, but I can bet it is some sort of data using program (either Email, Internet, IM, BT, WiFi, or GPS).

To test, launch Task Manager from SETTINGS >> SYSTEM. Shut EVERYTHING down and let it go to sleep. See if it continues to turn on.

I know in the past (other devices), Activesync was the culprit. But it could be anything. I've read that the Epix sometimes turns on when you switch between an EDGE > 3G network, and vice versa.

What ever it is, S2U2 is a really good fix for me. No longer will I be launching programs simply by pulling it out of my pocket.

The only problem I have with S2U2 is that after I save the settings in the Configuration program... afterward it refuses to run for a few minutes. I don't know if it is because it is updating a file which causes it not to run... but after a few minutes I find it working perfectly.

FTouchSL isn't a homescreen at all, although the pictures may imply that it is.

FTouchSL isn't anything. All there is, is a config tool with an option to turn it on or off, and make adjustments. FTouchSL makes EVERYTHING finger friendly with kinetic finger scrolling.

So no longer do you have to fight with scrollbars. Simply flick your finger up or down to scroll. It works on tabs (flick left to right). I tested it with the default contacts program, the Start Menu icons, messaging, Internet Explorer, etc. It all just works.

The only thing it changes is the way "normal" finger friendly apps work. It is wierd and hard to explain... but it actually is for the best. I'll give you an example:

Using S2U2. If you do a quick swipe, the Slider does nothing (because it is trying to scroll using FTouchSL). BUT if you keep your finger there for 100ms (a 10th of a second) you'll gain control of it and you can then swipe it.

Now you may say, "Awww it breaks the touchscreen"... but it DOESN'T. Like I said it is "weird". It seems to only do this in "normal" finger friendly apps, like S2U2 and iContact. Any other program like Internet Explorer, Messaging, Contacts, etc.... if you tap, you will select the item you tapped.

The reason I said it is actually for the BEST... is because using the Manilla2D homescreen or other finger friendly app... sometimes you "accidentally" tap something you didn't... and launches something you don't want launched.... But now, you just push your finger on it for a second to select the item.

The program also has an EXCLUSION list... for apps like Opera where you don't need to use it.

It's awesome. Ok/Close buttons are instant taps, scrollbars (if you want to still use them) are instant taps, selecting is a tap, OPENING a program is a 100ms hold (a 10th of a second).

I highly recommend this program. It is truely awesome. Gone is the day where I need "special" finger friendly programs for contacts, email, messaging, calendar, etc.

I like running lean as far as installing programs, and this saves me from having extra programs installed that aren't really needed.

[NOTE: And as of right now, I don't have Manilla2D installed. I wiped my Epix again because I screwed it up... and I'm going to see if I really want to use it or not. I like simplicity. While Manilla2D is awesome, I don't personally think I want to use it. We got it almost completely working and runs pretty much bug free. There is a layout problem still with the Music Library in the NEW XML... that I once fixed in the OLD XML... but got lost when we switched over to a different XML.

edit- lol must have posted right ater you. the touch program also seems to mess with the finger flicking of the photos and messages of manilla. i didnt know there was an exception list so i'll look for that.

Press your finger on the screen until you feel it vibrate, then flick. Again, its like a 10th of a second (100ms).

It is the same with S2U2... just put your finger on the slider until the phone vibrates, then slide.

It only does that to programs that are already touch friendly. Try putting S2U2 in the exclusion list. Since Manilla2D isn't a running program, I don't know how you could exclude it.

It just changes the way you interact a little bit. Once you figure it out that your supposed to hold it there for a second... it'll be a breeze. I actually LIKE these feature because i'm not launching programs while your flicking your fingers across the screen (which is the purpose)

trying out FTouchSL and so far it's working well, even with Manilla2D. by the way, the Manila2D.exe can be listed as an exclusion.

I've been playing with it and it is awesome.

What would be EVEN awesomer would be if we could set up the left/right gesture hotspots to make the cursor go left/right... which eliminate the need for switching the cursor from mouse/dpad.

I just deleted the PocketCM (Contacts Manager) because using the regular Contacts program is alot easier now with this FTouchSL.

    Perfect!

no fix to date... i'm still unclear whether this is related to the screen going blank vs. the device powering off.

    I'm not sure mike....

    [5 minutes later]

It seems to be working fine. I setup my gmail account and turned off the screen... a few minutes later the screen turned on, and vibrated. The S2U2 screen showed 2 new emails.

I slid the slider to unlock the phone and it vibrated again and popped up saying I had 2 new emails (even though I have Notifications set to off).

I only have S2U2 and FTouchSL installed. I turned off ALL homescreen items so my homescreen is completely blank.

Maybe S2U2 is grabbing the new email notice, vibrating and turning on the screen. My LED status light even was flickering purple (although I have it set to off).

I'm finding that the Sounds and Notification Settings Menu doesn't work very well.

The only way they actually work properly is if I hard code them in the registry (which I posted the how-to on page #13 I think).

    A setting of "6" = Vibrate (4) and LED (2)

This is of course trying to DISABLE the Notifications, which don't stick if set through the Settings menu. A setting of "15" turns everything on, which you might want to set.

    FTouch SL

    Player911,

What are your setting for the FTouchSL program. I am using the default settings and can't seem to get it to work for scrolling. My screen is not very responsive to begin with but I can't get it to scroll through contacts, IE, or emails. I do wait for a fraction of a second before "flicking". Am I missing something?

sfleuriet, I got the link from earlier in this thread... online page 3 or 4. A quick Google search will bring it right up.

Are you using a Treo 650? or an Epix?

I'm just using the default settings. Did you launch the FTouchSL program in the Start Menu and activate the program? It isn't activated by default after you install it. You have to manually activate it... and select if you want it started on Startup automatically. That is all I changed to start using it.

Since then I added Resco Explorer to the exclusion list, because it has its own Touch Mode and conflicted with FTouchSL.

AND You don't have to hold down to scroll. Scrolling is a natural flick. You only wait a second to OPEN programs.

Why would you need to run Spybot (or any other spyware) on your mobile?

I think there are a whole 2 WM viruses that you can catch. I've used Windows Mobile devices since way back when (Toshiba e740!) and NEVER had any problems with spyware, adware, or viruses.

What error message do you get when you install Palringo? Hopefully not Spybotadv.d not loadeding.

Neither of these programs need to have securities disabled (although it stops the nag screen).

Are you using an Samsung i907 Epix? What other programs/regedits have you done?

If you're using an Epix and having no luck, I would do a hard-reset and try again first thing. You probably hosed up the install processes. If you hard-reset and it still fails to launch, you might have bad files.
