Well, if the thing is still running like that with all those issues, we can be assured that VZW won't sign off on it anytime soon. Lets hope for a release before XMAS...
A couple of months ago RIMM stock was 148 points... Yesterday at closing... RIMM (Research In Motion Limited (USA))
47.82 (+0.83/1.77%)
Oct 29 4:00pm ET...
RIMM knows what this device means for their present and future... This is why they chose Verizon-Vodafone partnership because their partnership is the biggest in the world and the most robust...
The Bold was a mistake device for a dog and ponny network... AT&T.
Have faith... Do you guys prefer a rushed device full of bugs like the BOLD and iPHONE?
I am glad that THE NETWORK doesn't want this device rushed and with RIMM want to put this device out pretty well bug-ridden...
its disappointing to hear all of this, i was really looking forward to this phone and now all the reviews say its not that great and we are going to have to wait forever to get it
It's not ALL the reviews. It's the BGR 30 minute hands on in a noisy crowded place, and a couple other people that were at the event last night. I'm sure there's more to the story, because other reviews have been quite good.
There's a few things that could slow them down a bit causing the lag. Perhaps they weren't running the latest software. Perhaps with the dozens of people playing with them they had a bunch of applications open and running in the background, taking up a lot of the available memory. Or maybe something else that none of us have thought of.
I just find it peculiar to see such inconsistencies between the opinions of other reviewers and those who saw/played with the device last night, so I have to think there's something we don't know.
i hope you are right...i really like what i've heard about this phone other than that review, but its wierd how one bad review will make you second guess the other tons of good reviews or maybe just me
Also, not to call Verizon out or anything, but if I was going to have a promotional party for an item, I would have a firm date on release, a reliable OS running, and maybe a price.

EXACTLY. There are so many different variables involved in this situation that could be attributed to an unpleasant first-hand experience. The most glaring one is the software.
Like others have said, the VZW reps said they have had those units for quite some time now. If BGR was a REAL "Boy Genius," pun intended, he would have looked up what software version the phone was running. If he did, and it was the latest one, THEN we have something to worry about. However, he didn't, and for all we know he could have been playing with a phone that was 2-4 software updates old.
Also, when have you ever seen a demo model work flawlessly? These phones at the event should be treated the same as an in-store demo model strapped to a retractable wire. A typical phone is NEVER going to have to deal with the kinds of hands-on time that they were subject to at the launch party and in stores. ANY phone is going to experience lag-time, memory consumption, etc when it has 800 people playing around with it over a 2-3 hour time period.
I echo other posters in that we should really take anything negative about the phone at the launch party with a grain of salt as there are just so many different variables that could be attributable to a negative experience.
Anyone know if ESPN MVP will be availible AT LAUNCH? The Dare still doesn't have it. And I did notice the caveat about VVM being availible post launch. So I'm thinking the Storm will be app light at launch
The Bold was a mistake device for a dog and ponny network... AT&T.
As much as I agree with that statement, at least the Bold can be pre-ordered at the moment. BG is probably full of iJealousy, but if it turns out to be correct that the Storm is now pushed back (again), than it is no better than the Bold or AT&T.
About a month ago, I was so hyped that I called AT&T, asked about my ETF, told them I'm on the next boat over to Verizon. The Business Care CSR actually *agreed* with me, and said she was jumping ship for the Storm, too, if only they would release it. Everyone on ATT was sick of waiting for the Bold.
But now, I'm starting to get sick of waiting for the Storm. I can even handle Black Friday, but one more pushback, and I'll probably just stay with AT&T and get a Bold to finish out my contract (until June 2009). And by then, I can probably just get an unlocked Voda Storm and not bother with contracts anymore at all. This is how cell-phone companies lose potential subscibers. Just release the damn thing, in limited quanities, at inflated prices, to the early adopters like us. We can live with bugs and can even help make it a better product for the "real" launch.
But when I'm still stuck using a Curve I purchased in May 2007, that's way too long to go between a must-have device. My stopgap measure (the N95) lost it's appeal after just a couple months.
I need new technology and I need it now, dammit!!!!!

Well Said! I completely agree. I have been following the Storm closely since June, checking these forums every day. I have gotten my hopes up for every rumored release date(remember when it was supposed to come out in August??). I even got into a fight in Vegas at a blackjack table, hyping up the Storm to this loser iphone worshiper. However, now I am completely exhausted by the whole thing. I will still buy it the second it is available, but I am fine with waiting as long as it takes for RIM to fix all the bugs. I just want a stable, kick-*** device!
As for the timing of the release party, it's been my observation that Verizon has been experimenting with different approaches to drum up "buzz" for their devices. It seems like they are trying to take a page from apples book. The problem is, it's not as easy as it looks, and apple's cool factor is unparalleled. Verizon and RIM should stick with what got them to where they are. Cut out all the glam crap, and keep on providing us with the best network and phones in the world!

it would have been great if they or someone did a battery pull before using it so it had a fresh reboot. oh well.
we are all starting to sound like crack-addicts lookin for a fix, lol
Dude, I know!!! I truly have been addicted to following the Storm. It's to the point where the people closest to me roll their eyes if I mention the Storm! I do believe RIM will come through though. I refuse to believe that the iphone, on the at&t network, is the best phone around. I don't see it. That is saying a lot because I love apple and I am a mac user. at&t on the other hand is an absolute abortion.
