When i speak about it, people roll their eyes too lol
Tell me about it. Especially those people who got their G1s as far back as two weeks ago, while we still sit and wait (I can't wait to shove my Storm in their face ).
Don't worry about it this phone has OTA software updates. As for the supposed issues with the touch screen I would not take what BGR says at face value. To him "not the same as iPhone" = "problems" Storm is a different type of touch screen and those who have used it overwhelmingly love it. And yes if the Voyager is any indication software updates CAN improve touch screen responsiveness.
Actually, the touchscreen sounds exactly like the new touchpad on the new Macbook and Macbook pro. Only difference is there is no "monitor" underneath the glass.
People defend RIM like it's their job or something.
This was the product launch for the phone people. You don't bring a buggy phone to a event like this. BG was not the only one there who had complaints about the touch screen. It really does not matter if RIM did not have the latest release out yet. All this is saying to the public now is we're rushing this phone out. It isn't good in the slightest to come to a event like this with phones that are having the same touch screen issues as were reported many months ago.
Love RIM all you want, but they just made a stupid PR mistake and it could lose them some sales.

I'm not saying it was RIM's fault. VZW are the ones who put the show on and if they brought buggy phones with old OS versions to it then it's their own fault. I wasn't hating on RIM at all about it.

Really makes no sense to me why they would have a release party for a specific device and the software is not current/buggy. Kinda irks me a little. Bad PR.

It is quite annoying - wish they would release a concrete date myself - I have called every connection I have @ Verizon and I get the same BS - maybe the 15th is what they all say. I am going to pick up a cheap 8830 and use it until the Storm comes out - I am totally jonesing for mobile email again - using my wife's old vx8300 - it will not do!
For what it's worth, while I was speaking with my account manager this morning I asked her if she has been getting a lot of inquires about the Storm recently. She said that she has, and that they are still expecting it to be released in the middle of November and I would be hearing from her regarding it by the end of next week with some more concrete information.
I seriously doubt it too, I know I'm getting this phone as are plenty of others. This isnt a be all end all competition, lets face it, we don't exactly have a ton of choices as far as decent phones go on verizon. Most people that would care enough to switch networks will probly do it anyway so long as the phone is good enough with fixes coming down the pipeline.
I have been reading everything on this phone since day 1...
and I have drawn the following conclusions:
1) The launch party booked the bands a long time ago and had a small window to have the party- they likely paid a large deposit to reserve the bands so close to Halloween. The phone was supposed to be finished already and has been delayed indefinitely.
2) Vzw/Rim knows the phone isnt ready so they had a very limited amount of demos
2.a the phone is not finished (software side) that is why there is no release date yet
2.b the release date cannot be made without the finished product ready or without knowledge of when the phone will be ready to ship- only rim can tell vzw that the phone is finished and ready for release- then vzw has to inspect and decide if it wants to start carrying it. The phone has been delayed indefinitely or until an official release date is given by VZW.
3) The screen is likely made of plastic not glass since no one has come out and said the screen was glass. The LG dare has a plastic screen and IMO must be covered with a something to prevent scratches.
4) The phone at this point may not be released for a while- I find it hard to believe they will release a phone with the software running very slow and laggy- since this is such a big product for Rim. Its not that big of a product for VZW in a way since they sells likely millions of phones a week. Rim is not experienced at writing software for a touchscreen (as it is their first attempt). Remember when the iphone first launched- that had some bugs also...and Apple is a much more experienced company at developing software. The ota software fixes were never employed on the Dare (not sure why? So I can't imagine VZW would use them on the Storm.
Bottom line- I hope the software delay is shorter than the latest Bold fiasco!
(crossing fingers for a excellent polished product arriving in stores soon!
