Here in Chicago I was able to play with a demo unit as it seems most stores here got the demo's.. I must say I was not impressed at all with the touchscreen part of the phone.. Everytime i tried to surf the web and scroll down I kept accidentally clicking on links within the page.. So far the touchscreen part of the phone doesnt seem to be the best... just sayin..
^^^From the AT&T customer who cant use the Storm on his network^^^
Just went to a Verizon store and the rep confused me. He made it sound like the retail price was $199 but if your # is a primary line due for upgrade then you'll get it cheaper. Unless im wrong, but can someone confirm that he is wrong? Also does anyone know how to get Best Buy to allow for a upgrade if a line is eligble on the 23rd, 2 days after the release?
quick question: Is Backup Assistant on the Storm / compatible?
I'd prefer that VZ just hand me the box, Storm inside untouched, and let me take it from there. No, I don't have OCD or anything but I feel the best way to learn something is to do it myself. And honestly, I don't want anything but my contact list transferred over from my Dare. Since its saved online by BA, my Dare and my soon to be Storm will never meet if I can help it
As stated, backup assistant isn't available on the Storm, or any blackberry.
instead... Pair your Dare with the storm, and push your phone book from the Dare to the Storm via Bluetooth.
OR use Bitpim to extract the contacts from the Dare and import into outlook. Then Sync the Storm (via its included BB Desktop manager and USB cable) with outlook.
But my Favorite way is... (since the Dare contains the "NAME" in one field which consists of First and last... and the Storm, other smart phones, and outlook have First, Middle, and Last fields...)
If your PC is bluetooth equipped, pair the Dare and PC. Push your contacts via bluetooth from the Dare to Outlook. If it isn't, then use BitPim and USB cable to get the contacts into outlook.
In outlook, Fix them up (separate First and last name), add email address, mailing addresses, etc... then either push via bluetooth from outlook to the Storm, OR sync the Storm with Outlook via Desktop Manager/USB cable.

Let me try to answer you question as I'm in the very position you are inquiring about.
The retail price is technically $199, but that is only after a $50 MIR (in-store purchase). So basically you'd be paying $250 for the phone before you left the store.
If the primary phone on your plan is due for an upgrade (which mine just so happens to be) they will award you a $100 credit. So when I use this for my purchase, I will essentially be paying $150 before leaving the store.
Best Buy does not honor any type of Verizon Wireless credit, promotions, upgrades, etc. However, they will not tack on a MIR. Instead they will give you an Instant Rebate in-store. So if you decide to purchase through them you would be paying $199 out the door.
So if you are due for an upgrade/credit through Verizon, even if it is a few days after the release, you'd be best to go through Verizon if you can wait.

all of that is with a 2 year contract. The full retail price isnt known yet but is rumored to be either $499 or $549 .

Many people have posted that BestBuy has indeed price-matched NE2 credits in the past, and I confirmed this with them yesterday on the phone, that the Storm would be $99 for me, no rebate.
This may not be a corporate-wide policy, and may differ depending on the store manager.
So I can't get $100 off from the NE2 because I'm not the primary line even though my 2 year contract expired in May 2008? (I am also on a family share plan if that matters)

Definitely YMMV. As the stores I spoke to today said they would not honor upgrade/credit pricing.

Nope, only PRIMARY gets NE2. If the primary contract expired use the credit on the line and just transfer the phone to your line...But you will get the $199.99 2 yr. price. Up to you really or primary account holder for that matter...
Cheap TPU cases. Thunderbolt, MT4G, Nexus S (4G) Droid X/X2, DInc 2/S, HTC Sensation, Samsung Infuse, EVO 3D, SGSII
NE2 only applies to the primary line. No secondary line will get any discounts whatsoever other than the MIR. Also the NE2 of $100 only apply to accounts that are $79.99 or more a month. Otherwise it's $50 NE2.
Just came back from Best Buy in San Diego...they were taking pre-orders as of 7pm here.
The message came in from corporate... as of 1:37pm any and all pre-orders are not guaranteed to come in... hence why they said to STOP EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. Some stores just don't know how to check their Employee Tool Kit critical messages. I wish you the best of luck with your pre-order if it was done after 1:37pm

I talked to a CSR today. 1 year pricing 269.99. Full Retail is $599. Supposively that is. Sounds pretty accurate. $599 is a hell of a lot for full retail but expected.
