Question for people who are planning on getting the STORM?
Well I got through going through the pricing plans to own a BLACKBERRY. I gotta say its a little pricey IMO. Im curious are the people that are planning on purchasing the phone using it more for buisness or pleasure purposes?
Wow, people really don't seem to get that this isn't a Price Plan or NE2 thread.
Yea, we actually DO get it. Try stepping down off your high horse and look at the reality. While the Mods have made it clear that this is not a plan thread and some other new threads HAVE been started, the bottom line is this IS still a PRE-release thread and there is really no new information about the phone itself to be released..We may see a few posts as people begin to get their hands on them but there will be minimal - if any - NEW info about the phone. So, the reality is now we know the phone will be out in the next week, people are thinking about how to purchase it and which options are best for them individually. It is still Storm related.
I was one posting, not many days ago, encouraging people to use the search features because so many questions and comments were being repeatedly posted. I quickly threw out that idea as no-one gave it much consideration. So, I've come to the conclusion that for the next week this thread will meander. Come the 21st, we will likely have a Storm sub-forum with individual threads for just about every topic. For now, we can continue to be judgemental of each others posts or just except that there is much enthusiasm and this thread is the most monitored thereby making it the thread providing the highest likelihood of getting an informed response.
It is Saturday and if we are focused on a new tech toy like the Storm, life must be pretty good. Try to enjoy it rather than get your panties in a bunch over what other people post trying to make decisions and share their enthusiasm.

She offered me the storm at $249 - $50 instant discount - $50 VIP discount = $149 shipping on Fri with $20 extra for Sat delivery. I took the offer immediately and paid the extra for Sat delivery. I am supposed to get a text message on Fri confirming the order shipment.
I am extremely happy, but shocked, because I just got the Dare when it was released earlier this year. I was not eligible for regular upgrade until Feb 2010.
It's probably worth calling 800-477-7752 even if you think you're not eligible.
No dice for me, I just tried, and they said no-preordering available. Do you know who you spoke with?
That is GREAT! Thanks for confirming that. just the thing you need if ever taken hostage!
p.s. if this was a demo unit, i hope you didn't save your secret flickr email address in it and hand it back to somebody else.....
well I hope not to be captured but I take a lot of pics and cant remember where i was ie meeting a girl lol(ill forget where i met herand ill look up the geo tag) oh yeah I met you in towson or whatever lol
and I emailed the pic to myself at work to ensure that I wouldn't have that issue and to preserve the meta data.

It was a female, don't remember the name. I imagine they are looking up your info in the system first to confirm VIP status and then offering the preorder if the account is coded with VIP status.
Otherwise, they are probably saying no preorder available.
Not sure why I became VIP ($79.99 1400 plan with 2yrs service and military discount), but I'll take it.
and please play with it to make sure that you all are happy with it because remember that restocking fee WILL be in affect!!! $35 and vip customers are NOT exempt!!!!

I don't think jes7 was able to preorder it. In her post she said that the rep offered to ship it out Friday. If she were able to preorder it she would have been able to ship it out when she ordered it. I read in another thread that telesales reps were just putting people's orders on sticky notes and they can't really enter them in until the 21st anyways.
This is a bit OT but still relevant to Storm purchase and seems in-line with current discussion about different purchase options.
With $100 NE2 (grandfathered), if we get the 2 yr contract we know it is $249-$50MIR-$100 NE2 = $99. If we assume the 1 yr price is after MIR and only $70 more (using the $100 NE2) the price would be $169.
So, my question is: if I go the 1 yr route, what happens at the end of that yr? Is there a lower NE1 for the purchase of the next phone? Or is the next phone priced at full retail? or is the next phone subject to a 1 yr price with no other discounts (in this case as an example would be $249 - $50 MIR + $70 = $269)?
In other words, I have always been a 2 yr contract holder. I am trying to look at the $$ to decide 1 or 2 yr price and contract because of the new tech that is coming out now so fast. We have been told to expect a Storm 2 during 2009 that some think will be way better than this one. Obviously there are many other new phones in the pipeline. So, I am looking to learn which numbers I have to look at to do a fair comparison. It seems that I have to consider:
- 1 yr price vs 2 yr price (now)
- what discounts will be available (NE1?) for next phone/full-retail, etc.
- anything else that I'm missing.
I know my next NE2 will drop to $50 if they keep the current policy (my current $100 is grandfathered from early 2006) but I do not know what happens if I use the $100 and then go to a 1 yr. I know I made it sound more complex than it really is but I wanted to make sure I covered all the bases. I would imagine the answer would be much shorter.
T.I.A.
You can't use NE2 if you sign a 1 year contract. Also, if you are just on a 1 year contract, you don't earn a NE2 credit (there is no NE1 program). So in your situation, if you sign a 2 year contract, with the NE2 credit you are eligible for it will cost you $99 after rebate. If you sign a 1 year contract, it will cost you $270 after rebate.
Do you have a corporate discount on your service? If you do, you may have a corporate discount on your handset as well. While they won't let you get both NE2 and corporate discount, they should offer a discount on the 1 year contract too.
no stores have "demo" units (in the wbv area )however their data reps(dsc) may have them, well should.
what software version they have will probably depend on the day....
when the store gets them is up to the higher ups ie drop ship friday morning or via the normal scheduled truck.
they want this bb to sell so I think that they would get it to the reps to get used to and not fumble when we are selling it.
I was at a Verizon Store this morning in Chicago and they did have a LIVE unit that I got to play with, the typing seemed effortless and the screen transition was pretty fast and accurate, the MGR did tell me out of the blue while I was testing it that there's going to be a bunch of updates for this phone as there is usually for all new phones when released so I assume he expected me to be dissapointed by something on the phone while I was testing it out but everything seemed pretty fluid to me. They also said they have no plans as of now to open early on Friday but did tell me the store on Michigan Ave will have the most units available and will be the first store to open in Chicago.

sounds good with that area now we need some here in wbv!!!
I have a Motorola KRZR, how do I transfer my names and addresses as I don't think I can do this via bluetooth, don't even know how, can someone tell me how to do this.
On another note, I spoke to Costco yesterday and they will have them in on the 21st, they will be giving away car chargers, a small case, and a headset.
I asked them if they will do the NE2 and they said yes, but you still have to mail in rebate. Also remember the rebate they send will be in a gift card form not a check, don't know when companies started this, but my dad is with AT&T and that's the first I heard of it, but if you look on the website it does say $50.00 card.
Please help with the addresses though, not really a techie.

Thanks so much.
re address book -take it to a vzw corp store and they can do it for $10.00
the storm has been in the cellbrite for at least a month now.

I called and spoke with an agent. She informed me that I could also order it over the phone but it wouldn't ship for 2 business days...meaning I wouldn't receive it until Tuesday the 25th....
I also called my local Costco and they will in fact have Blackberry Storms this coming Friday, however I was told they will not honor the NE2 promotion and that I would be better off going to a Verizon store...

This truly is the most idiotic charge I could think of. Especially for those individuals who have been devoted customers for numerous years. I mean I could understand it if was a technical process, but when they take your phone in the back, stick a cable into a phone and laptop and do some switcheroo, for $10...please...
Either way, I don't see why Verizon won't accommodate those switching from a phone to the Blackberry Storm the day of purchase.
