    Retail Pricing from Verizon

So I ended up locking up my boyfriends account trying to access it online...again So he had to call to have Verizon unlock it. He asked the CSR when he was eligible for an upgrade and/or NE2 and both are June 2010 since he just got a V9m back in May. He then asked if he wanted to purchase a Storm, how much would it cost. The CSR advised that he would have to pay $369.99 - 50.00 (MIR) = $319.99. I'm not sure if there is any type of "discount" built into the pricing the CSR gave (corporate account, long-term customer, etc) or if this will be the retail price offered. I don't think $319.99 is a bad price to pay but my boyfriend doesn't see things the same way as I do, so I don't know if he'll get it. Per my corporate VZW rep, since I am eligible for an annual upgrade, I will be able to get it for $199.99 when it is released. So once my boyfriend sees mine, I'm sure he will change his mind.

Oh, before I forget, I received one of those "Verizon Wireless Private Sale" invites yesterday LOL! I tried calling the 1800 number indicated just to find out exactly what this private sale is about but of course, I hung up before getting through to an available CSR. I suspect this is just a ploy to get folks into the stores to purchase their current offerings and they are simply using the Storm as a "dangling carrot".

Maybe things are changing. Verizon and Blackberry are getting their butts kicked up and down the block by the iphone. Apple is selling more iPhones than RIM is selling BBs (globally across all carriers). Verizon is losing customers to AT&T because of the iPhone. It doesn't matter which phone is technically better for this function or that, the sales figures speak for themselves. That is what the suits have to answer for, and come up with a way to fix it. It's quite possible that Verizon and RIM have decided to take aggressive steps to turn that situation around.

Remember, they also want to sell this phone to people that are not currently using a smartphone, so they have to reduce that cost of entry. It's a relatively easy sell to those of us with smartphones on Verizon now, it's the rest of their customers that need to be sold.

That's pure speculation though. We'll know for sure in a few days, so there is no reason to fight about it.

I saw your original post; don't take this personally but I don't know you so I did not put too much faith into what you were saying. On the other hand I have been around mbaverizon, 0mie and VZW_E for something around 3+ years on this forum and others.

I understand what you are saying about the SKU; its the same thing one of my fraternity brothers, who is the manager at a location in Concord, NC told me as well. That prevents those from sending it out early, at least at this point. When that changes all "hell" will break loose

Extremely dumb? I doubt it! $50 vs. $250, come on, you can't possibly be serious. Just because of few people were running around with misinformation posting here from CSR's which has been stated by 0mie, before the VZW_E, picture as well as mjbuzby, before being verified, as being completely bogus. Its a Blackberry for goodness sake, it did not remotely make sense. Tons of people here, more than those claiming the $369 price, stated it was completely impossible, $230 less than the Best Buy retail, come on.
Completely off and that is fine if you got it from VZW CSR's, the point is it was horribly off the mark. Had someone really wanted to complain about that they would and it would cause an uproar. Which, once again, is the reason you would rather be too high than too low.

Perhaps you missed the ENTIRE premise of her statement and were selectively reading.

Just by stating a $50 MIR that alleviates the concern that she was speaking in terms of full retail, there is no MIR on FULL RETAIL. Corporate discounts can possibly take the price down into that range being $50 over a typical 1 yr price. However, from my experience when I purchased my Curve at the corporate rate I was not eligible for a MIR.

The simple fact that she did not know exactly what discounts were built in gives your point no credence.....$369; it has been posted that it is not true and the price that she was quoted was no where on the posting by VZW_E in terms of 1 yr, 2 yr or retail.

    Voice and Data in India

    Hello,

I got an email from a media rep. at VZ about the use of the Storm in Hi-Tech India. She said that India is a major market for VZ & Vodafone and that Verizon has data coverage in India in both CDMA and GSM. And voice in CDMA, plus voice in GSM in a global phone. Though, you don't need GSM for voice in India; CDMA works fine.

But if you check the coverage details in India, you'll find that the South is well covered, but there are large areas in the North that are not. Major metro areas are of course covered; the areas not covered are not high-tech IT centers. The VZ maps are way behind times obviously, and the maps for the global phones show no GSM data coverage anywhere in India. They really need to work hard to update these maps, as they need to encourage business travelers to India to buy the Storm to ensure good global coverage.

I have a 10 day trip to India coming up in a couple of months. I will take my VZ phone with me (unless I buy a Storm before that!) and use voice for short calls that are important, ($199. a minute) and use an Internet cafe for Web/Email. $65 a month for use of the Storm for email/Web in India is high, but very convenient. One would have to get that data package beforehand, otherwise its 2 cents a KB for data over there.

FWIW, I believe that is the same price that AT&T and all the other carriers charge for international BB access as well. Everyone I know that travels overseas signs up for the BB international plan right before their trip and then switches back on their return. One guy in my office learned the hard way when he went for a one week business trip to Paris and came back to a $300 data roaming bill waiting for him.

I called my local Costcos and can confirm that Costcos nationwide will have the Storm on the 21st.

However, they will not honor NE2 pricing or any other related discounts accept for the MIR.

I believe they are including an accessories package with the purchase (car charger, bluetooth headset, etc.)

Granted, as an iPhone competitor Apple might have reason to be less than cooperative but what about the fact that Macs and iMacs now run Intel and Windows programs? I'm not yet mac familiar but one might think if they run Windows programs then...?
Basically they don't want to spend the money supporting another platform when they think they can get away with only supporting MS Windows.
to be fair, Verizon has never been a very Mac friendly company either. Every phone i have had (all on VZW) required help from this site, yahoo groups and the usenet to get the phone to talk to my computer at all.

I'm sure Verizon can look at the stats for verizonwireless.com and see how many Mac are visiting their site, then correct for the "people screw around at work and do web browsing on work machines" as opposed to what they own at home. At this point they don't feel like those users are worth the effort. Most Mac people have accepted their option and jumped to AT&T for the iPhone. Unfortunately that leaves even less incentive for Blackberry/Verizon to care than they had 2 years ago.
Unlike regular cell phones, smartphones are silly if they won't properly sync with your personal computer (as opposed to work assigned devices that sync with work servers).

I would think if the Bold supports Divx so would the Storm.
I'm not sure but you would think so; the same device with a touchscreen. I sure hope it supports Divx.

Thanks for the reply. As a Mac user, what is your take on their recent ability to run Windows programs and how does this impact BB sync-ability? I am not a heavy user but do want to sync contacts and full calendar. If I do get an iMac for my home office to replace my P4 XP Media Center (also have a fairly new PC notebook w/Vista), and load Outlook - how well/not will the Storm sync w/Outlook? If iMac can run Outlook 2007, where is the sync problem?

Might it be possible that the 4.7 OS "branched off" from the main OS before they introduced support for Divx? That could be one explanation how it is in the one but not the other (when it seemingly should be). If it's not there out of the box, which would be nice (but I'm not getting my hopes up), probably the best we could expect is that down the road they start re-merging updates to 4.5 into 4.7 as well.

Does anyone know if Verizon will include the BlackBerry slip case? I see that it is included in the Vodafone version but it is not listed on the Verizon box on page 1 of this thread. I sure hope it is. I consider this a must-have accessory for all the BlackBerry's I've had. It provides great protection when not in use and with the built-in magnet puts the phone in battery save mode when inside the case.

That is what I Can and I have been saying. Telesales reps are taking lists down and will be processing the orders on Nov 21st and shipping them out that day, not prior to for delivery on the 21st.

If your idea of a "pre-order" is ordering the device on the day it is released and having it shipped that day, then yes, those individuals who state they have "pre-ordered" the Storm have pre-ordered it.
