I opted for the $50 pre-order through Best Buy. I was eligible for an upgrade on October 21, 2008 for my ended 2-year contract. I plan to purchase the Storm when it comes out and extend my 2-year contract and add the blackberry service. If I purchase through Best Buy, will they turn my service on at Best Buy and will I receive my NE2 upgrade credit of $100 when I purchase this phone for ($219.00). Meaning should I receive this phone for $119.00 if it is actually $219 for a 2 yr? Anyone know these details?

It means that only VZNav can access the GPS/aGPS features of the blackberry. For other apps, its as if there is no GPS built in. (like how the GSM Pearl/8100 and Curve/8300 are... to use any GPS app you need an external Bluetooth GPS device).

versus something like the GSM Curve/8310 or GSM 8800 series where its open, works with Telenav, Google Maps, Windows Live Search, or any other GPS aware application.

It includes DataViz Doc's to Go. So you can use that to view/edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint docs...

    Check DataViz site for compatibility.

If you have a BES, what ever the attachemnt service can open, the Storm will surely be able to see.

As for BIS... I can't say. I haven't used attachments with my BIS email accounts.

So does this mean that phones like the pearl aren't actually using GPS (using cell towers instead?) when locating in say google maps, while the Storm will if it's unlocked?

Yes, that's why the Pearl will sometimes give you an 'approximate location' that isn't too good when using Google maps. It basically just takes the tower that you are connecting to and sticks a ring around it depending on signal and such.

This is slightly off topic but pertinent to thread courtesy. When I logged on this morning and saw over 5 pages of new posts - I thought the phone was now available. I proceeded to read through all the new posts and saw basically nothing new (other than the multiple postings of the exact same information - place holder prices).

While I am absolutely and genuinely thrilled to see the "kinder and gentler" attitudes (read: no flaming for lack of search) with kind and repetitive responses, I am beginning to develop better appreciation for the impatience with people not searching. If anyone wants more proof, read through the last 5 to 10 pages and see just how many times the exact same question is asked, same info posted, same answers provided.

We are all anxious to learn about this phone and we are all subscribed to this thread. Therefore, we all get email notifications for each and every post. Posting, asking, and commenting without content or substance (like: "I really want this phone") is merely dragging each and every thread subscriber back here for nothing.
I applaud the new-found tolerance and I beg everyone to try using the search button at the top of the page (there are two: 1) "for search this thread" - top edge of thread posts and 2) "search" which takes you to fully customizable parameters - in the toolbar just under the forum/thread locator near the very top of the page).

I asked this question directly to Verizon and they told me that the only way to guarantee you get your NE2 credit is to by directly from them (phone, online or at an actual Verizon Wireless store). So, I guess this sort of depends on your Best Buy and how much work they are willing to do for you.

One question, is it gonna play streaming videos in a tiny square in the center of the screen or will they actually figure out how to do full screen streaming videos?

It gets streamed into the media player, so yes, it will be fullscreen.

I think what he is trying to say is that we want email notifications - for Storm prerelease info. I get them too and many times a day come here to check and see "I can't wait", "My NE2 is coming up", "Wish they would release it", etc... (Increasing their post count) Also, redundant posts - people aren't checking the last 1-3 threads to see if maybe they're just a little behind in coming across the info. I certainly understand and participate in the excitement but ask that this thread have more content. I'm sure everyone can understand the feeling they have when they come here and an insider has leaked something, a new ad is out, or info in general has become available as opposed to coming here and finding out that "xxxx" just can't wait for the phone.

It is a prerelease thread so there's no expectation that every post will be value added. We can try though!!!
    Hangin out.....

On the bright side, you just need to send and save everything as Office 2003 stuff. It's annoying, but not difficult.

Well the 8830 also streams it into the media player and even with the new OS it still is unable to do full screen, so basically that means nothing.
