    A-R-V's DoCoMo F905i In-Depth Review

The DoCoMo FOMA F905i is truly one AMAZING looking clamshell phone. It is definitely in a class of it's own as until this day, I have NEVER owned a phone quite like this one. I will be reviewing all the pros and cons of this phone today so that the people on here viewing this forum can have some sort of hands-on info about the DoCoMo F905i, quite possibly a sleeper hit of the whole 905i series. Anyways on to the review:

Looks - As I mentioned earlier, this phone on looks alone is totally in a league of it's own. The rhyme there was totally coincidental and in no way planned. lol Immediately just by looking at this phone, the F905i commands attention. A total head turner as far as cell phones are concerned. It's Sex Appeal rating is definitely a 10 for the Sonic the Hedgehog-like blue color. As soon as it's out of the box, the phone just looks awesome. Not too big like a Sony Ericsson Z800 but not too small either like a Motorola Razr (my first cell phone). The phone feels just right in the palm of your hands, it's not like your holding a Blackberry but then again, it's not like you're holding onto a Razr. It feels just perfect, the perfect size clamshell. In conclusion, the phone looks sexy as hell.

Operation - There are a number of things you CAN'T do with this phone but that doesn't suggest that this phone is completely and utterly LAME. lol the things you CAN do with this phone far outweigh the things the phone can't do in my opinion. Something you CAN do with this phone is, you can make and receive calls depending on the hypersim you have. My F905i came with a I-Smartphone 2008 hypersim and so far, it has been working fantastic on my phone. I travel to the city a lot as I'm from New York City and coming out of the train station, my phone immediately regains signal. Calls on the F905i are crystal clear with no feedback, static, or echoes of any kind. I've called numerous people since receiving the phone and I have not received any complaints from anyone as far as call quality is concerned. So I'm assuming, depending on your hypersim, the F905i is going to work fantastic. I've only had to perform CPR once but

Another thing you CAN do is send and receive text messages. Now I haven't had any issues as far as long text messages are concerned, I remember reading that sending long text messages can be a problem but I've sent a few 70 to 90 character text messages and they were all sent out just fine. So if you're good at sending short text messages, I believe 160 characters was the limit but some people had trouble sending them out, if you have no problems keeping your texts short and sweet, text messaging should NOT be a problem. As the great comedian Joe Rogan says, "if you got something important to say, don't text me, fcking CALL ME!" lol I've never believed in a statement so strongly as I do with that one. You CAN put your own jpegs in it to use as your wallpaper. You can put in videos and music to both watch and listen to on your phone. You CAN'T however go online on this phone. Although it would super awesome to go online with this phone, at the time being, online is locked from the phone as per special service via DoCoMo themselves. Who knows, online maybe unlocked in the future but as of now, it's not. You can't send e-mails on this phone but e-mails was never a big issue for me as far as cell phones are concerned. If you're so important that you need to have access to your e-mail 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, go get a blackberry. If e-mail is a huge factor for you as far as cell phones are concerned, do yourself a favor and count the F905i OUT. You can use the bar code reader but I really don't know what you would need it for. I've scanned a few barcodes around my household and it doesn't really give you an option as to what to do with them. It gives you the option to save them to your phone but other than that, that's it.

Basically this phone is great for p33ps who use cell phones as well, CELL phones. The 3.2 megapixel camera is 100% usable on this phone. The FOMA F905i comes with TWO 3.2 megapixel cameras, one on the back and one on the inside flip. The quality is amazing for a cell phone. I have a Sony Ericsson K790a with a 3.2 megapixel camera and I think the pictures taken with the F905i look a lot better than the K790a. Sure the K790a offers you more options and things to do with the camera but the pictures on the F905i screen just looks a lot better and brighter. As far as operations go, for people who use cell phones as actual PHONES, with the proper hypersim, the F905i should not be a problem. If in the event of losing signal, you can just pop your sim+sim hack into another phone, your "CPR phone" and boom, once you get signal on the CPR phone, just pop it back in to the F905i and you'll be good to go. No need to make a call, well at least for me, once you get signal on your CPR phone, turn it off and pop the sim card+sim hack back into the F905 and you'll be set to go. As a standard cell phone with text, calls, camera, music, and video, the F905i is fckin BOSS of the town. Video games like Bomberman are available to play but if your into primarily the standards, the standards ROCK on this phone and on top of that, the phone looks amazing. Did I mention the totally kick *** fingerprint scanner. Totally awesome feature that can let you lock the phone temporarily until you can your fingerprint. It could be a fingerprint from any finger, it just takes one slide down the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone. This is of course adjustable to your tastes as sometimes the scanner doesn't work as fast. Sometimes it takes a few swipes to get through but once it does, it's all easy street from there.

I could get into all the things that the phone CAN'T do but why should I? It would only bum you out. No you can't use your phone to pay for things at a Grocery store UNLESS you're in Japan, NO you can't use the built-in 1-Seg TV UNLESS you're in Japan, NO you can't send multimedia messages like videos and pictures unless you're in japan. I tried sending a video of myself playing guitar hero to my e-mail address and it could not do it but in my opinion, the things the phone CAN do outweigh the things the phone can't do.

Battery - Battery life is decent, at least a day and a half before I have to recharge it. Pretty standard for phone that looks awesome and does so much.

Overall - this phone kicks so much ***, it's ridiculous!! If you want a phone that looks hot and can easily impress all your friends and co-workers, get the DoCoMo F905i. The rotating 90 degree angle screen alone is enough to get this phone. Everyone should at least turn the F905i screen just once in their lives just to feel how cool it is. Depending on your hypersim, this phone can either pwn hard or suck balls so do your research first before you commit to buying a hypersim. I'm pretty sure my hypersim was a I-Smartphone 2008 but the way mine looks kind of resembles a Inex Hypersim more. I could be wrong. The hypersim you choose could make or break this phone for you, don't F up and buy the wrong one. I say go with the I-Smartphone 2008 F905i hypersim just to be safe. It's cheaper than the INEX and who knows, might compliment your sim card better than the INEX. I'll try to take a picture of just the hypersim later on this week. Until then, here are some pics of the F905i.

I'll try to post some pictures taken by the F905i later on tonight. The pictures look stunning, I'm sure you'll all think the same. I'll do some side-by-side comparison pictures between the F905i and a Sony Ericsson K790a.

    More updates later.

I've never really figured this out, but how did you put those pictures on your phone?

Mainly because I've never had a need to, just curious. Unless you took them yourself, lol

There's a guide on the internet on how to do it.
The guide was made for the P905, BUT it's generally the SAME for all docomo phones as their OS is generally the same. Different features here and there, but generally the same.
    Google it.

I've done it for my P905i and used the same guide for the SH906i, which worked perfectly fine.

And OP, your pictures are horrible :P
    They're not clear. Haha ^^

Oh yeah.. TWO 3.2 MP cameras?
No wai. Obviously the outside one is usually the better one and the inside one is USUALLY the crappier one.
    But 3.2 on the inside?
Where did you get that info? :O

ooh you CAN send sms (but.. ok you have to forget about long sms because if you have something to say you'd better call.. -- it reminds me of those apple addicted guys who try to play iphone-lacks off as un-necessary functions--)

    (I like f905i)

wow =[ well the lighting by my computer desk wasn't really the greatest. I'm going to take some more pictures of the phone and post them up later on tonight along with some side-by-side comparison pictures of the F905i and the K790a.

Yeah I must've read some false info about it but there is indeed a second camera on the inside of the phone. It might most likely be a 2.0 megapixel camera. Other than that, the review is still pretty solid. Aside from not being able to go online and not being able to watch TV, the phone is awesome for making/receiving calls and text. The 3.2 megapixel camera and video function is just icing on the cake really. The F905i is great!

As for the pictures, yeah, I actually got lucky with it. I don't have a USB cable for the F905i at the moment but I do have a MicroSD USB reader. Here's what I did, I sorta followed the P905i manual on the hardwarezone forum but I didn't have the USB cable for F905. Here's what I did:

I took 2 pictures with the F905i when I first got the phone you know, just to test it. To my surprise, the camera saved those 2 pictures to the MicroSD card instead of the phone. So since I have a MicroSD USB reader, I took the MicroSD card from the F905i and plugged it in to my comp via the USB reader. In the DCIM folder, I forget which folder it was actually but in one of the folders already on the MicroSD card was a folder that had the 2 pictures I took with the phone. They were named liked F1000005 and F1000006. Why 5 and 6, I do not know but what I did was I replaced those pictures with two of my own pictures, already formatted to work with the F905i. I tried following the same format and putting in a few other pictures all named the same way. Like F1000001, F1000002, F1000003 etc... I put like 5 other pictures in with it and named it the same way as the 2 pictures I took with the phone. When I plugged the MicroSD card back into the F905i, the only pictures it could read was the F1000005 and F1000006, coincidentally the same names as the two pictures I had taken recently with the phone. So since I already replaced the pictures I took with my own, I decided to copy both of my new pics onto the phone's memory. After it copied to phone, I basically repeated the same process until I had all the pictures I wanted on my phone. It took a while but I got it done. Since I can only transfer two pictures at a time this way, you can imagine it took me a while. lol I'm pretty sure this process will become super easier once I get the Docomo USB Data Cable which I should be receiving soon. Until them, this is a great method. Although a bit strenuous, it's worth it.

and the Koda Kumi wallpaper, you can't really notice it in the pictures but the quality is STUNNING!

I just realized that the hypersim I have is NOT an I-Smartphone 2008 but an Inex Hypersim. If you guys are wondering which hypersim to get for the F905i if you're on T-Mobile, I strongly suggest the Inex Hypersim.

very nice phone. F905i is in fact in a class of it's own.
I have a question for all F905i users out there.
I was wondering if the chrome around the phone "stays" that colour or are there discolourations of some sort.

    Thank you.

    does it look..."bad" or, tolerable?
I'm thinking of buying a Blue F905i. The colour is perfect! The Sonic Blue colour is so hot. Just like x016x said.

I've yet to notice any discoloration on the chrome but then again, I've owned the phone for about a month now. Things can change in the next few months or so. To be honest, the chrome isn't really the F905i's selling point. They had me at the rotating screen and the sexy sonic blue color.

Completely agree. The selling point for the f905i is the rotating screen and the sonic blue combo. Can I hear Hotness?
Just a little worry concerning the chrome, that's all.
I have a keyboard that has the chrome-like feature and it's becoming kind of...yellow-ish. Hopefully this blends well with the sonic blue f905i.
