And why do you like the AT&T phone better?

And if it has no branding, is it running a stock Motorola firmware with the "Network Selection" menu enabled?

I myself like useing the Motorola Phone Tools as I can use what ever portion of the song I want and fade in and out as I wish! A little bit like DJing. Personally don't even like mp3 format I like to here all the music!!!!!!!!! But for ringtones it will do. Must be an old fart audio file (vinyl, reel to reel)....![]()

I assume it is direct from motorola usa, a friend of mine ordered it for me and said that's where it was from. He travels alot and always has unbranded phones that he can just pop any sim into and it will work, so when he was talking about getting a tundra i asked him to get me one and that's the way it came. And if by network select you mean that I can see what network i'm on then yes. As for why I like the ATT one better, it is because I use the media net and mobile email functions alot, so it is a little easier.
To get to "Network Selection": Go to the main menu, click on configure (or settings). Once you're in the Settings sub menu you should see Profiles, Themes, Connections, Call Settings, etc.Originally Posted by unregistereduse
Scroll down to Network, and select it to get in. Once you're in, please report back with the options you see listed there. For example, it should say something like Current Network, Scan Avail. Networks and so on. We're interested in Network Selection because it let's you lock the phone to 3G mode for better call quality. So if you see something like 850/1900UMTS or 850/900/1800/1900 GSM that would be IT.
I think we'd all appreciate it.
Or lock out 3G for longer battery life, especially in an area with marginal 3G coverage.Originally Posted by Perios
Yes, it has that ability. The problem I had with dropped calls was from moving to and from a 3g area, so my friend made it so that my phone doesn't go to 3g, it always says edge. But, I just switched back to alltel and sold both tundras to a friend at work. I will ask him to look at the menus tomorrow, but what you described sounds like what happened, as he made the change right on the phone.
We were discussing putting personalized ringtones on the MOTO VA76r (branded). Now we are talking (unbranded) and network issues. Is there any firmware out there that I and many others could use to address this issue. I have tried removing the micro sd and putting ringtones on it but when you reinstall it and try to use as ringtone in the menu it is grayed out so you can't install the ringtone! ROGERS BRANDED CRAPPPPP!!! Any help or suggestions would be GREAT or maybe I should just run the piece over with my truck although it probably would survive! DRM=Dough Really Matters!!!

Like I suggested before, try an uploader.

When I use it on my AT&T phone it won't send the text so I have to manually go to the wap site on my phones browser.

Love to know if it works.
I only do data at home on PC & MAC. Like I said old school (Analog High End Stereo) (Digital as well as long as it is produced and recorded ifin you know what I mean.) Now I'am off topic! I use my phone as a phone. Tried browsing once but it doesn't seem to cut it on a small screen. So I'am back to square one. HOW TO PUT MY OWN RINGTONES ON THE MOTO VA76r?
THANKS FOR THE GREAT IDEA THOUGH!!!
Do they have to be less than 300KB? That's what I get on my Tundra.Originally Posted by unregistereduse

Getting mid/midi/mp3 files onto the phone isn't a problem, you can play mp3 files with the rogers music player, and view the midi files in the file explorer allowing to open and listen by selecting there, select any of it for ringtones.
I've been looking into this debranding business, haven't found out any fix yet. I've also wondered about replacing some of the stock midi files with downloads, but can't find them when I plug the phone in to my computer.
People in this forum thread seem to know the most of what's going on out of everywhere I've been so I made an account.
Okay. I wish I read this before I signed up for another 3 years with Rogers! But, I guess this is the lock-down mentality for ALL Rogers phones now.
I've been attempting to put the CTU "24" (Jack Bauer) ringtone on my VA76r for days now. I just found this forum, and was surprised to find out I was NEVER going to get it to load as a custom ringtone. Sure, I can play it with the media player on the phone, and it's tucked nicely in my music folder, but I want to apply it as a ringtone!![]()
I had an old copy of Motorola's Starfish product, but that can't be upgraded anymore to include support for the VA76r...![]()
I don't have $50 to purchase MPT, and I'm not sure that would get around the Rogers locking down of the ringtunes. After adding this $200 phone to my plan, and currently not working full time, I'll be further behind the 8-ball.
I've sent SMS messages to my phone, downloaded the ringtone, and still get get anywhere except the Preloaded ringtones supplied..![]()
I was excited that somebody replied. FYI bud, so you know, MPT wouldn't allow you to play ringtunes on your rogers one anyway. Only solution looks to be something called debranding which involves flashing firmware on the phone, and there isn't a firmware around for that unless you want to switch to AT&T in the states or something.
Still, I'm waiting for a solution to come sometime, and this forum seems to be the most on the ball place, as outdated as most of it is.
I was glad that I found this thread. I have a Motorola Tundra VA76r that is unlocked and I use it on T-Mobile. I would like to configure it so I can also use T-Mobile T-Zones on this. I tried calling both T-Mobile and Motorola Customer Care. T-Mobile sent me an SMS, which changes some settings, but I still cannot connect. Motorola was less help still and said that it can't be done. Does anybody know if this is possible, or is it likely that AT&T made sure that this device was locked down so that I can't web browse on another network?
