Say it isn't so. No More iPhones for 2K9

Here in Vancouver at pacific center mall corp. store.

I was told that Fido will no longer carry the iPhone for 2009

He stated that all the particulars are being sorted, As to if the current model of the 3G iPhone will no longer be sold or is it that fido will not get the 2K9 model of the iPhone slated for release of fall next year.

He stated that it no longers fits into the portfolio marketing scheme of fido and that carrying high end phones is not the path that fido is headed on.

appearently the only high end phone we will see from fido next year is the Razr2 V9x slated for release within weeks and a samsung coming in december or jan.

Any insiders care to share insight.

I have known this employee of fido for years and I dont belive he would lie or give out rumours for the sake of being in the know. I think there is some truth to this and is is being reveiwed at fido as we speak.

This wouldn't surprise me one bit. I was actually surprised that they kept the iPhone in their line-up of phones given the recent re-branding of the Fido name. It doesn't make sense to be a no-frills company selling an iPhone. I have no idea if there is any truth to thus rumour, but IMO it makes sense.

perhaps we should have a thread on what services will be cut; ie BIS support (or is it already cut?)

Yeah I just touched on this in another thread. Fido has just re-branded. Give it time, I think we're going to see more and more changes like this over the next 6 months to a year.

This will be a slow death for the classy, well priced value brand that fido <was> known for; heck i even saw the new rogers tv ad with the so called BB Bold dog...,

get your options, cause they are set on creating major differences btwn the 2 brands now..

So much for getting a 64GB iPhone in Spring 2010 (based on double of space each year). I guess I am stuck with my current iPhone indefinitely.

Time to speak up people. Tell Fido you want to see the iPhone continue being offered with Fido. Spread the word. Make noise.

Fido is Rogers budget brand, the iPhone doesn't fit into that brand

If they are going to cut it off, they shouldn't have rebranded the end of the iPhone commercials to include the new Fido logo then. But I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone is discontinued from Fido anyways

I disagree with the fact that Fido is a low budget brand. I know many people that went to the Iphone with Fido, even more than Rogers people. I just wonder in the 250K Iphones sold this year in Canada, how many of them have been sold by Fido?

They weren't really a low budget brand, but they will be now. It looks like Rogers is prepping Fido to compete with Yak

If this is true, it goes along with the new look for their website: fido crapped the yellow pages onto the interweb.

i am convinced the with the rebranding; efforts will be made to inlude low end phones; ie E71 and iphone may not see the light of day next year...

Fido was always Rogers' budget brand since they bought them out. We got the iphone this time around, why would we not get the next one? I think iphone is going to be one of those models that will be shared across the board for rogers/fido. Cutting out a portion of their market for one of their highest selling handsets makes no sense.

They're going to be supporting iPhones on their network for years and years to come because of this round's sales. I don't see why they won't offer upgrades when the next one comes around. Last time I checked, Rogers likes money.
