Interesting... I signed up for the My5+5 Student 25 back in Aug/Sept and was told I'd be getting 5$ off for VP's given that I'm a student and they shall get 5$ MSF off.
... Well for the past few months I've had to call in and get that 5$ taken off manually because there "system" didn't take it off.

I'd like to know if my 5$ credit that's on my profile will still be there once I switch...

These reps can be shifty sometimes saying things and agreeing to things that they don't understand just to sign you up for something new...

If I can get it for 15$ I think I can safely say I'm scrapping the 6GB to have some extra change on my pocket.

    Cool

    My first post.
$30 Val Pack doesn't come with $10 credit as originally posted. This was going to be the initial offer but it appears someone made a booboo and retracted that real quick.
    The codes are VP30bb500,VP30WM500.

Damn, bubbadave, this is very important to me and could be saving me 10$ if you happen to be correct on the codes. Great first post buddy, bubbadave.

    just called rogers...

the rep I spoke with said that there are no notes about a $10 discount/credit to be applied against it...

I told her that I have an iPhone...

so... my question is this... do I just keep calling until I find a rep that can apply a credit?

Here's what I've got going on so far...

    250/Unlimited Eve/Wkds Plan 20.00
Savings: Monthly Plan Credit 3 Yr -11.67
Savings: Monthly Plan Credit 3 Yr -8.33
6PM Early Eve. Calling Option 5.00
Unl. Local Calls 3 Mths - ends Jan 28/09 0.00
    Canadian LD Anytime Option 5.00
    iPhone Value Pack+VVmail 15.00
911 Emergency Svc Access Fee 0.50
    System Access Fee 6.95

I'm not sure if those 2 credits are MSF ones or not... I would presume not since they're not even amounts - I think they're retention credits instead.

I should note that I have 6-mo (ending in May 2009) of free unlimited data.

I've had the iPhone since early Oct. and I've only used about 80MB via 3G (I've used a lot more via wifi) so I think that 500mb/mo would be more than enough for me.

My question is this... do I add the plan now so that I have 500MB for (essentially $15 more if I cannot get the $10 credit) and then I have it locked in, or do I wait until closer to my free data expires?

rep is obviously uninformed. hang up, call back.

my #1 pet peeve is uninformed reps who try to justify their misinformation with confidence.

The $30 500MB VP (even without any $10 discount) would save me $16/month. I would lose my $30/6GB BB Data plan but I haven't been able to even punch through 40MB/month on my Bold yet so the 6GB is overkill.

My only concern is if I ever move away from a BB device, even for a little while, would 500MB be enough? 500MB on a BB is a lot but on an iPhone for example it's not. This is a tough decision.

500mb is still a lot on an iPhone for the majority of users. Yes, there are lots of people that have exceeded it but there are also lots of people (95%) who haven't touched 500mb.

Just switched over to the $30/mo plan. I already had a $10/mo recurring credit and made absolutely sure that it would stay.

Great deal since I wasn't able to utilize anywhere near 6Gb anyway. Now I just gotta find a way to get the Bold for cheap!

In case you all haven't noticed, these plans are in response to Telus's Smartphone Bundles! Key mentions...while are SMS isn't unlimited, it is 10,000. As well, our phones work with MMS, their smartphones (at least the Blackberry's) don't. As well, their "500mb" data is limited to on device usage only, and ours is good for 500MB on any device, including tethering! They include VM 10, we include Enhanced VoiceMail (20 or 25 capacity).

As well, their bundle requires a $30 minimum plan...our's doesn't.
