My guess is that if they are anything like a Mercedes key, you will only be able to get them through the dealer. I don't think the engine will turn if you have them cut by a normal key smith. And yes, it can be expensive!

Unless maybe you're talking about for a much older Lexus, then it may be different.

Do Mercedes keys have that fancy electronic stuff in the key itself?

    What year and what model?

For older models without the IC chip in the key goto Pacific Mall. Its the store near the middle where they sell locks, alarm system and keys.

The guy is only there on Sundays in the afternoon. I am not sure of the exact time. You should go check it out one day, and ask the people there, or find the sign that is posted.

$30 bucks per key. (That includes the key and the cut) However these keys are generic, they don't have the "L" on them.

Yep! Then just goto Pac Mall.

After he is done, examine the key. Sometimes he polishes it and sometimes he does not. If he doesn't then just ask him nicely to polish it so its nice and shiny and so the metal filings are all off.

    You are welcome!!

The $80 that Lexus wants is outrageous.

Oh I forgot to mention that $30 is just for the key! There is no transponder in that key.

i've heard much higher numbers for a key, so you're seeing a good deal

$80 is just for the Lexus key, no transponder chip no remote no keyless entry.

If you want keyless entry they need to replace the whole transponder unit which is $1200 then each key after that with remote is around $250. It is nearly impossible to program a new key with a transponder in it to work with the exsisting unit.

(These are for models with the keyless entry on the key, not a separate remote)

I would think a keyless remote would be the same price if not more.

The transponder key for our Jeep (Grand Cherokee Limited) was $95USD

    Talk about annoying!
    6 years on hofo.

If Elliott Smith had tried to fake it through the day with Johnnie Walker Black instead of Red, maybe he'd still be alive today.
