Samsung Omnia i910 - Hacks / Tips / Tricks Thread

Let's gather all of the tips, tricks, interface changes, etc to one thread.

    1) Interface Alternative by Shemmy
    http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1467629

We all love our Omnias, but we are all also sick and tired of the basic Windows Mobile interface. The Samsung Widgets are nice, but we can't add any new ones. The Samsung Today screen is neat looking, but not very functional. Thankfully, we have options for alternate interfaces.

There is a thread over at modaco detailing how one can install HTC's TouchFlo 2D:

    http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-...flo-2d-on-i900/

I've done this, as have a few other people here on HoFo, and it's completely amazing! There are two downsides to this. The first is that the main TF2D screens don't work in landscape mode. The second is that the only way to remove TF2D is a hard reset.

Another option is SPB mobile shell, which I have used briefly. My initial impressions were that it's clunky and hard to integrate with the Omnia, but I really didn't spend enough time to try out different skins and the like. There are some good skins for SPB Mobile Shell running on the Omnia:

    http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pro...mobileshell/?en

    http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.php

    I am currently using Winterface:

    http://iwindowsmobile.com/vito-mobile-shell.html

There is a 14 day trial, which I am using to fully explore this. Winterface is the most iPhone like. It also reminds me of the BB icon interface. It's simple, yet elegant and attractive. The interface is intuitive and easy to use, and so far is my favorite.
    Disable Samsung Dialer:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin]
"Enabled"=dword:1, you should change to 0 and reboot your Omnia
    Turn Off Popup Keyboard
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip]
    "TurnOffAutoDeploy"=dword:1
    Lower Incoming Call Volume
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/CONTROLPANEL/SOUNDCATAGORIES/INCALL = INITVOL - WAS 2, CHANGED IT TO 4.

Switch off your phone, Hold the CALL-END and the CALL-MAKE buttons simultaneously, don't let go of them, power on your device, keep on holding until you see the format screen, then release the buttons and make your choice. however this will not format your "My Storage" drive.

    Lower Incoming Call Volume
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/CONTROLPANEL/SOUNDCATAGORIES/INCALL = INITVOL - WAS 2, CHANGED IT TO 4.

The way this is shown actually increases the volume during a call....

Is there a fix for this issue: when entering a contacts name in the "to" field in either a SMS or an Email, no contact names appear. This was a normal feature in WiMO before and now it is gone. In order to enter a contact's name you need to click on add recipient or select the person's name from contacts. A big hassle.

    Thanks

Is it normal that everytime my screen goes out (after about a minute) I have to press the power button to get the screen to come back up? None of the other buttons do anything. If I press the call or end call button I hear them working and it actually winds up making calls with the screen off (not a good thing) but the screen never comes back on. Is this normal?

Well if I press the call button it activates the phone but also brings up the keypad as if I'm gonna make a phone call. The end button works now that I've charged it. I think if the battery is below 50% it starts going into standby or something.

    EDIT:
Well I went into power options and it looks like my phone was set to turn off if unused for a minute or more on battery power and 5 minutes or more on external power. Do most people leave these as default? I don't want my phone turning off at all. Wouldn't that stop my programs (like AIM, email, etc.) from running?

How To Rotate Omnia Screen using Push Button
    http://howardforums.com/showpost.ph...0&postcount=753
Why use this app when the feature is already implemented? I have the same button assigned to rotate my screen. All you need to do is configure the button to <Rotate Screen> option.

    Another very cool tip...
A little app found on modaco that allows you to map a hardware button to switch between mouse and dpad. Very useful!!

dude great find. You read my mind. I was just thinking man I wish there was an easy way to...oh look.

FYI for those who may not know what to do with this, paste a shortcut to the file in your windows/start menu for easy access.

    Thanks again

To use the flash as a flashlight go to settings> Buttons> bottom right scroll all the way to the right and click on flashlight> check the box on the top. This is an incredible handy feature I used on my Q (had to use a 3rd party app) you wouldn't believe how that little light could light up a room or help you find something you dropped at night. It's easy too, when your at the Today screen just hold in the bottom volume key.
(noticed this is in the main Omnia topic too thought I'd add it here)
