Two Questions about Family Plans (One Question involves Amazon.com)

Hello, I hope you are well.

I am planning to sign up for a family plan with AT&T through Amazon.com. The first question is rather basic: When I sign up for a family plan with three lines, will online retailers ask, at any point, for the names and information of the other people on the line, or do online retailers only care about the main account holder?

My second question involves Amazon.com. Because I am signing up for the family plan at Amazon.com, I will be receiving three new phones. Their terms state that the offer is only for new AT&T members. Does anyone know if that applies to the account holder, or does it apply to the rest of the people on the plan as well? If I, as the account holder, has never been an AT&T member before, but one of the people on my line was a recent AT&T member, will I be be going against the terms?

    Thanks,
    Victor

I haven't signed up for service through Amazon, but I used Let's Talk, which seems to have similar terms. They did not ask for any information about the other members of the family plan. We did it under my husband's name, since he was the primary account holder with our other carrier, and it seemed to make it simpler for porting the numbers. Later on, we added me as able to make changes to the account on AT&T's online account management page. So I doubt they will know if any other people on your plan are recent AT&T members, _unless_ you want them to be the primary account holder.

Also, I think you can add people later to also be financially responsible for the account, but with Let's Talk at least, they told me that part of their terms involve not changing the primary account holder for the first 6 months. That's when you'd start to get in trouble with your contract with them. I don't know the details of how Amazon does it, but I believe it's similar - you have a separate contract with them as well as AT&T, so you are subject to ETF through _both_ if you decide to leave early. With Let's Talk, their contract is for the first 6 months (AT&T's, obviously, is for two years).

they should not ask you any thing about the other users. My plan (4 Phones) show only the primary user on every line. According to ATT they can not change that to individual users. Amazon should just send you the 3 phones set up with 3 numbers because they can not control who gets which number. Does create problems with caller ID on some phones.

I actually signed up with Amazon on Thursday for a Family Plan. Never asked me for deets on anyone other than myself. We were both new AT&T customers, but what I would do is if you need to get a NEW customer discount, just use the name of the person who isn't on AT&T.

Don't forget too that the Caller ID thing only applies to landlines and some corporate lines, as on cell phones they don't pull TRUE Caller ID info. If it is an issue just call CS and ask them to add someone to the account to authorize changes and then ask them to change the Caller ID on the specific line you want to change to that user (if applicable).

Thank you, medgirl2001, Jfraw, and chickenslut!

I really appreciate the in-depth information! I called Amazon and verified that this information is true, but to be honest, I'd rather trust the members of this community than one Amazon representative (these representatives seem to give me varying answers sometimes).

Please know how much I appreciate the help that was offered today. Have a great holiday season.

    Take care,
    Victor
