Re-loaded all my .xml and .itm files and it worked so I moved onto the menu.ml modding. I noticed there were a lot of "internal" commands so I browsed around for a while. Here's what I came up with: (keep in mind "email" is for the debranded w760i with activesync set up. "messaging" is texting, mms, etc)
Write New Email:
Write New Message:
There's pretty much a "Hook" for everything that can be made into a shortcut by the nav keys in the shortcuts menu. Here's an example of my files:
If you need help modifying the code to what you need it to be, ask and I'll see if I can help.
Ok, i found out why the left and right soft key mods didnt always work..
in order to get them to take you have to go to tpa \ preset \ system \ custmenu and delete the files --> cust_menu_data.dat & cust_menu_done_unpacking.dat.
Once i did that.. bingo! my right soft key is now Camera
yes its possible, the right softkey can be assigned to a java application or folder but the left and middle softkeys can not be changed, ill post the Opera Mini right softkey later im not at home at the moment
Thanks Manny that would be amazing! I just copied the items from post 71 (followed instructions from post 77) to make my left softkey Camera. Worked like a charm! If I assign my right softkey to Opera that would be amazing. Also can I change my side softkey from the default (Walkman) to something else, say Media?
Oh yes and where can I find the mod to allow volume keys in standby mode that mkbatt mentioned earlier in this thread?
edit: I did find a tutorial on A2 softkey modding here but it looks rather complicated. If someone can give it a whirl and post back what I should do I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks Manny! Couple questions though. Why is your customize_upgrade.xml file blank? Do I still need a RIGHT_SOFTKEY_HOOK.xml file to place under tpa\preset\system\custmenu\RIGHT_SOFTKEY_HOOK ? Also what is all the garbeled text at the bottom of the RIGHT_SOFTKEY_HOOK.itm file?
'To activate the hook you will have to upload the .itm file along with a "blank" customize_upgrade.xml file to "tpa/preset/custom" and switch the phone on, the blank customize_upgrade.xml activates the hooks, without uploading this file you will lose the use of your softkey untill you either activate it/delete the .itm file/master reset.'
Thanks Manny guess I should have read that link I posted a little more clearly. I'm going to try and work on making the middle softkey link to Gmail and upload a "G" icon .png file to go with it. I found the Gmail .JAR and .JAD files in Memory card\System\AMS, but when I copy them over to my computer they have a # added to the extension (e.g. Gmail.jad.#). Also I have no idea how to view the item_action information needed for my custom hook. The link provided says I can find the info here:
1. the jad file of for the java application you wish to link,
2. the MANIFEST file within the .jar archive of for the java application (located in the META-INF folder).
then rename the .jar application to .tar, open it and you will see a folder called META-INF go inside it and extract the MANIFEST.MF to a folder then rename the .MF file to .xml and right-click on the .xml file and click edit, you will see, the information needed is all there
Thanks Manny, I finally got it to work! I was confused at first because the tutorial that I linked from mod-myforum.com has different steps from those earlier in this thread. However I find the procedure much easier as it only requires you to upload 2 or 3 files to one folder, rather than having to create a HOOK subfolder under custmenu nor do you have to delete any files. I was able to get Camera as the left softkey and Opera as the right, but I changed it so it's plain text on Opera and not the logo. Next I'm going to work on the center softkey, I'd like to have the Gmail "G" logo open that app and I don't think I will have to unlock the center softkey as discussed earlier in this thread. Once I get it all working I'll post my files here!
Okay I got everything to work the way I wanted it to, except I left the center softkey alone. Instead I unlocked the Nav-Up key so I could assign it to Gmail Mobile (followed mbkatt's steps found here)
Ceate a defualt_upgrade.xml file with the following code, then upload to "/tpa/preset/default" folder in the phone's file system using A2Uploader
ok so i'm wanting to do the camera (left soft key) and unlock the up navigation shortcut key. I also would like to be able to use the right soft key for something..
but i see you guys talking about creating the two different files with the strings you have written. So do you just do this in notepad? and just use what ever extension you're saying to use when you name it?
and that creates the xml and itm file type?????
so then i just create the required destination folders and drag and drop my new files in?
i've noticed some people get this to work and some not. anyone figured out the sure way?
