You know, Howard could just send Rogers/Fido a bill for advertising their product, or supporting their product via their forums
Its not a simple thing. Howard could just turn around and delete the forum/subforums. All these rogers customers that get their info/support FOR FREE would have to call *611, and Rogers would have to PAY for what Hofo does now.
Also, legitimate complaints that need to be handled by the executive, get aired in a third party setting where Rogers personnel (probably all the way up to exec) monitor and are able to assist /review/resolve said complaints.
In the end, it might be cheaper to do nothing. Rogers Insider is probably a rogers marketing guy realizing that he just got his wad blown prematurely by a 20 year old ish kid
I suspect that this forum costs Rogers more than it generates - specifically through the various retention, free texting and other related "how I screwed Rogers" threads available here.
There are good things and there are bad things found here - like the person who got smart, ordered two phones for his account and was properly charged for the second HUP and it turns out he did it to sell the phone and is now upset that he has to pay for the device - newsflash . . . Rogers didn't ship him a phone to use. They did it to make money by charging for the services enabled by the device.
Having said that, I don't see what the big deal is about letting the cat out of the bag on coming phones. They will be crippled versions of the open market devices anyway and might even have modified hardware attributes.
We won't know until the devices actually hit the shelves.
Rogers doesn't lose on retentions deals, they just don't make as much as they might otherwise--or, more likely, they make more, since they really do retain those customers that way. Do you think they would offer the deals and lose out on them, in the long run? Any money coming in for infrastructure already built is fine; and those customers probably don't cost much in service in the long run.
As for this thread, if Rogers didn't want it open, it would disappear quickly. Advertisers and industry leaders call the shots, and it's way less expensive to hit the delete button than to say "Sue me!"
I love seeing upcoming products, the internet thrives on it, and 17K views so far say that we all do. Great advertising for Rogers, and as stated above, we'll all likely buy a few new Rogers phones before we buy the ones in this thread--or buy them for a second time, Rogers-branded.

Xperia X1 releasing in Q3?? Way too long, so much for waiting for it. Now I'll have to find another phone.
Or buy it outright from the manufacturer, or from the dozens of online retailers that have it for sale (once the recall issue has been resolved, of course).
I for one hope they get the Q11 there is only the Jack with a full keypad and my Q9h is better. Can not see it happening the Latin American model lacks memory and 3G.
