Exclamation MMS's coming from a different number - HUGE problem!

    I am in FL.

Person (1) in PA sends her friend (2) also in PA a picture message and it comes from my number, so when (2) replies, I get her response, everyone is confused, but eventually things are cleared up? It turns out the sender (1) also has a G1.

    System hiccup? I think not.

One week later, person (3) in CA sends her boyfriend (4) a picture message and it also comes from my number. (3) also owns a G1.

Now, you can imagine how big of a problem this could be and how big of a liability this is for T-Mobile. Says (2) replies to (1) with personal information about either of them and I intercept it, since (2) is really messaging me instead. You can only imagine.

Is anyone else in here experiencing this problem and, if so, has T-Mobile found a real solution for you? This is most likely a problem in their messaging center, but I just called Customer Service and they attempted to send me an OTA, which I refused for several reasons, the main one being that my physical phone wasn't involved when either of those two screwups happened, so an update to my phone's software won't fix crap.
T-Mobile really has to get this problem with MMS's coming from different numbers under control now!

This has happened to me before and its kinda a security issue, i mean its kinda creepy, i love in cincinnati and sent my gf a pic mms and it came from an 813 number which is in the Tampa,Fla area a 1000 miles away. my gf got this picture i took of her from an odd # and was totally weirded out by it. this needs fixed, there is a discussion about it on Forums.t-mobile.com (OFFICIAL) but no resolutions yet i dont think. does anyone know if this involves all messages sent by any tmo phone or just ones sent by a g1?

In my experience, it's only messages sent from G1's. Call T-Mobile (quick 611 call from your G1 and then say "G1" when asked what you want to do) and complain. In your case, it makes more sense than they send you an OTA, since the message originated from your phone and if the problem is really caused by the software on our phones (which I personally doubt), then an OTA could fix it. If anything, the more people complain, the more resources T-Mobile will assign to solve this.

I've noticed that MMS has been messing up of late. Sent myself 2 messages to an email address and it came from : 1786301XXX@tmomail.net. Area code 786 is way south Florida Keys. I'm in Brooklyn, NY. Yeah, I'd say there is something wrong with MMS.

[edit: in case that was someone's number here. ]

Actually, 786 is right here in Miami. We have 2 area codes: 305 and 786.

Ok. I just check an area code map and it showed the Keys. Still strange as all giddy-up!

People, I emphasize this: call 611 from your G1, say "G1" and the prompt and complain. This won't get fixed otherwise. They will send you OTA's that will most likely not get rid of the problem, but sooner or later, they will find the root of the problem, most likely in their messaging centers, and fix it, but they need to feel the pressure.

YES -- CALL T-MO ABOUT IT!

There is speculation that this might be caused by a rogue app, possibly MeetMe. However, it seems more widespread than that. It seems bigger than an app issue, though, more like a network issue with MMS rerouting. Bad, either way!

It's bad...People are getting pornographic pictures, calling and/or texting the G1 owner who is shown as the sender, and the sender doesn't have anything in his/her sent messages. The messages are not originating from the victims' phones, but from someone else who's munging the caller ID so it appears to come from someone else.

See these threads at Android Community forums for more info:

T-Mo also requests people let them know when this happens:

There are numerous threads in those forums about this issue.

    Ummm Tmo Rep!

I had this same handset since early Nov, and I complained about MMS's the whole time.

I've talked to many Reps and I still can not receive text/voice messages from anyone on AT&T

I'm at the point where I stopped worrying about it, I just carrying both my phones.

    ( 2009 ) And I'm Rooted & Booted!

Hmmm... I do have MeetMe installed. Guess I'll have to visit those threads. Thanks for the links.

Last night I had some girl yelling at me in Spanish, and sending me pictures "that I sent her." First I asked her nicely to stop messaging me because I am not who she was looking for. She got all pissed and said "FINE F U!!!! BYE!!" Just by chance I asked if she or the intended recipient has a G1, and she has one. So I explained to her about this issue and she actually seemed to understand (I figured she would just continue to call me a liar and yell at me, lol).

Apparently, the messages this other person sent her showed my number as the source of the messages...Hopefully this gets resolved soon.
