Hello SliceOfVice thanks loads for this guide its the best one it explained me everything. and i was a noob.
So..i managed to do everything i opened up my file system acces with bitpim and put the text files and mp3 in my phone but they never show up on my phone under My Files Ringtone :S
So I think somehow my phone deletes the files automatically after i unplug or when i restart the phone or something
The best way I have found to edit the text files is to just open BitPim, browse to the file on your phone you would like to edit, then right click on it and "Save" it to your computer. Don't shortcut by copying and pasting from the web page.
That being done, it should be kept in mind that Windows Notepad is notorious for messing up spacings at the beginning and end of files, as well as some characters. (Anybody editing files for a Linux-based operating system could probably attest to that! ) So, I would highly recommend opening and editing these files with TextPad , which is a free download for evaluation, or for a completely free program, Win32Pad .
I have had no problem editing files with this method, while NOT using Notepad.
I would also like to thank SliceofVice, agashka, and all others who have contributed to being able to hack the Slyde!! Here's to all of you!
I admire you guys for putting in the time and energy to take this stuff on. Unfortunately, I just can't afford the time to take this on or the risk of bricking my phone. I thought I had done my research before I chose my service provider but now I see I've been screwed. There are lots of free apps to use the GPS built into my phone but Telus blocks the loading of Java apps. Instead, Telus wants me to pay 10 bucks a month to use the GPS in my phone. What a scam.
I'm locked into a contract but I'm seriously considering dumping my other Telus services because I'm so pissed off. We need a consumer revolt to bring these guys back down to earth.
I have been trying to understand how to use the programs to place ringtones, games, and apps but I am so confused maybe I have installed all wrong bitpin isnt seeing my phone at all, and UniCDMAv098 is saying not connected is there someone out there who could guide me step by step plzzzz I thank you in advance
@ Jacked: Telus sucks, man. I'm with Koodo, so I know your pain.
I understand you not wanting to brick it, I was the same way. So I made detailed step-by-step instructions with pics and everything. Follow this link and you can't screw it up.
@ karaokenut: I haven't figured out how to play games on it, but ringtones are a breeze...sorta. Just follow the links above and you'll get it. In short though, to get BitPim to "recognize" your cell, use CDMA Workshop to unlock it. Hard to explain, just click the link and follow the step-by-step instructions with the attached pics.
If you need further assistance, post a reply or send me a message.
I did mange to get Opera-mini (signed Version) installed on my phoe fine, at first i couldnt get the program to run right, it wouldnt let me access the download feature of opera mini.
but now i have it going fine. i took the telus policy file from my phone and made some changes to it to all access to everything. (all apps) i found tht it doesnt seem to affect the game section, but for applications on the phone every thing is set to always allow. now i am able to do downloading with my phone. i did get it to download games mp3's and movies traight to memory card. work perfect for me too.
here is a copy of the telus policey file i edited to allow this. just replace this one with the one you have on your phone. restart phone and it will give all apps on your phone full access.
Anybody have any links to the latest working .jar and .jad files for Google Mobile Maps? I can seem to find all kinds of versions, but I would like to know what version people that have it working are running.
