You need to have the _policy.txt edited to allow all and also make sure that the permissions in the .jar are the same as I posted. They are basically the same permissions as the email2.0 is granted

about Google Maps, have you been able to make it use the internal GPS? that would be nice
EDIT: I just tried gmail as your instructions says, but I still cannot reach my inbox, it says I need to grant it permission to Network Access. =/
Thank you for the nice work risestar! I have the edited _policy.txt file installed, but I haven't noticed the internal GPS working with GMaps yet either....it is still using the web to download data as far as I can tell. MGMaps, however works well using the GPS.
This definitely uses GPS when you are using your own stored maps, as it locates you without receiving web data (It can be used in "Offline Mode" when you have and select the option to used stored maps).....but maybe it uses triangulation from cell towers? The location is very accurate, however.
I believe I used the "mgmaps.jad" and "mgmaps.jar" files...all you have to do is open BitPim, navigate to the "brew/shared/jas/temp/install folder, and drag and drop the .jar and .jad files in there....I believe the .text file for the app will be created automatically. Close BitPim, disconnect your phone, power it off, then power it back on again....phone will reboot and self-install the app.
This can be done with just about any app you want to install AFAIK, as long as you have the edited _telus_policy.txt file installed.
Easy stuff...you can try out many apps this way to see if they will work...if they don't, just erase them!
MGMaps takes a few minutes to get a lock on your position....you will see when it is downloading map data, and when it has a GPS lock, a little red icon in the upper right corner of your phone LCD will turn green. Also, I have found that the best map type to use is the "Yahoo Hybrid" type.....gives you a nice satellite shot of your location and overlays street/highway names.
How good is the GPS though? Like I understand it takes a few min to lock on but once its locked on is it smooth sailing? Or does it take a few minutes to lock on everytime i move?
Hey do you guys think this way could work to install a ringtone?Drop in the .gc and .dd file of the ring tone there?
Under the "Menu" tab, go to "GPS Device", and make sure it is set to "Internal." Also, under "Mobile Tracking Settings", make sure the "Show Marker", "Move Map", and "Move At Startup" are selected. The default refresh rates should work fine. Under "Display", then "Default Overlays", check all the boxes.
It may take a couple of minutes to lock on every time you move....but maybe not even that long when the green GPS icon is showing. It will probably take a while to refresh if you are moving.....I haven't tested it yet while in a vehicle, or walking, etc., only from a fairly stationary position inside/outside my house.
missilx, remember you need a clear line of sight the the GPS satellites in order to establish a lock. It wont work with you in your basement or in a lot of indoor places.
