Please check the logs generated by bitpim and post what you see there (not the entire thing if its huge just a few of the most recent lines when you try to view the file system. I have noticed with Bitpim I can't actually connect to my phone if I have any other USB devices plugged in when I try it.

    ------------

Updating to say that KB Player apears to to be fully working now. I had to hack the Java file to reassign the softkeys, but everything is good now. Let's hope that I can get online this weekend so I can formalize an update and make the ringtone/fs tutorial more clear.

Opera has been crashing on me today, so I think I will try the installer method and see if that works better.

I have also figured out categorization of java aps, but will need to map out where numbers go where.

@Phonesnthings, I will be looking at your ringtone when I get home as well and let you know if I find anything wrong.

    I'm stuck on BitPim.
Everytime I make the files, put them on my phone and then I restart my phone.
The ringtone is not there when I start it back up and then when I plus t back into bitpim, the files I just uploaded are all gone.

Do you know where the contacts info is located using bitpim. So that a backup can be made?

    rant (sprint)

everything worked for getting into the filesystem, and i found a ringer i previously downloaded in the mmc1\AMSDL\Ringers folder...

there are 2 files in there, a GC file, which is the ringer itself, and a GCD file, which is the information about the ringer

any ideas on how i would get a GC file from an mp3? i can handle copying the GCD one.

also, would there be a 3rd file like there is for the Slyde?

Has anybody got custom ring tones to work for the Samsung Rant on sprint? i tried it and haven't got it to work. The only way i can get custom ring tones was to cut the mp3 to 30 seconds using Auducity then renaming the extension to .avi then converting into 3g2 video file. I place the 3g2 video file into DCIM\100SSMED and rename the .3g2 to SSPX0003.3g2 if it doesn't work with another name. I would like it to work like this guide says though so i can use the ring tones as an alarm for my alarm clock. Thanks.

@phonesnthings (and anyone else having troubles with ringtones)

I looked over your files and there's 3 changes you need to make to get your ringtone working, all of which need to be made in the .txt file:

    1. your file name reference path has the .GC extension capitalized, i'm not sure if this is case sensitive or not, but it's better safe than sorry
    http://www.howardforums.com/newreply...e=1&p=12296086
    2. Your file has extra hard returns at the end of it, where you only need one. Again, I don't know if this makes a difference, but just in case...open that file, press control + end to put the cursor to the very bottom of the file, and press back space until there is only one blank line after eveything.

    3. (The MOST important one that IS making your ringtone not work): It took me some playing to figure this one out, but for all the blank attributes in the file, you need to have a single space after each colon. This is something that did not copy to the forum correctly, so when you copy and pasted my example to your file, it did not copy these spaces.

    So for example:
    FEXT:
    ENCO:
    SUBD:
    COID:
    ICON:

All should have a space after the colon. If you check your file, you will find you do not. Once I made these 3 adjustments I was able to get your ringtone working no problem.

    ---------

I know there are lots of other questions coming up, but I can't answer them today, sorry folks. Will try to before Friday.
