Well, it worked fine on both of my WinXP machines. Try installing the following:
-.Net Framework 2.0
-Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes 2005
-Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes 2008
all those can be downloaded for free on the microsoft website.
if it's still not working, type the error here, and I will see what I can do.

oh well screw it
i run a mac, i do all my phone stuff on my friends computer
It worked for me but, copied the .txt into "/brew/mod/obione/jas/index" and the .dd and .gc into "mmc1/jas/content/" and rebooted. Unfortunately, I still can't see any ringtones in My Content, it asks to download first.
I have the one from Telus (pay & talk) so not sure if that would make a difference. I already re-read all posts in this thread and still can't find the foul in my settings. Also, after rebooting, all three files (.txt .dd and .gc) dissappear
I followed the SliceofVice tutorial in post #17 because I want to use my Rant as a modem for my laptop. Well things didn't work so well. 1st time I lost my PCSVision capabilities. Did the NAI tethering entry (twice) and still it would not connect dialing #777 with SprintPCS as the ISP. Ended up returning things to stock (followed the steps in post #49 from Phone as Modem thread on SprintUsers.com) and only lost the phone numbers in my contact list. Kept the names but lost the numbers. Hopefully SliceofVice can redo post #17 with the steps to use to make the Rant a data modem for a laptop without having to pay extra on top of extra to Sprint.

First of all thank you! I've been playing with this for a while, got all I need, programs, passwords, etc... I got into the files using QPST, but for some reason using BitPim the file option won't show up. Also looking at your screen shots, my files a slightly different!? Is that because during all this I managed to erase ABSOLUTELY everything (paid for ring tones, contacts, paid for songs..) but I'm still grinning as long as there is a hope to stick it to Telus! Can you help / have any ideas why I can't see my file directory while using BitPim? Thx
Hi all, I'm brand new here. I came across this site when I was poking around trying to find information about the m540 Slyde, which I'm considering buying. I currently have a V3c RAZR (telus).
One of the best features of the V3c is the ability to use MPT to backup/restore my contacts and backup my text messages (sort of, the text message thing is a little flaky).
So I guess Samsung doesn't provide any tools equivalent to MPT. I've never used bitpim until just now when I've been reading this site. I got it working (sort of) with my RAZR, so I'm relatively confident with Bitpim. Do people here have an opinion on the likelihood that bitpim will support the slyde in the near future? In particular: SliceofVice, if you're still around (I hope your phone is working again!), do you plan on working on these aspects? I guess it comes down to trying to figure out where in the file system the contacts and text messages are stored?
Well guys i am really new to all this but would just like to thank sliceofVise for his wise info, cause of him and not giving up i have figured out how to put Ringtones on my Slyde M540. I even managed to get opera on my phone and a game, galactic attack...LOL well i can only use the front keypad for now but thats fine until someone figures out what to do to get the inside keypad working.
Does anybody know how to transfer contacts onto the M540 Rant (Telus)? I can easily get Bitpim working but I then only have access to the filesystem.
Does unlocking the phone open up other options in BitPim? Is there another program that can access the contact list? Is there a way to edit a file in the filesystem that contains the contacts?
As this topic is for Telus users, I decided to make a new topic in the Koodo forums that involves the SPH-m540. If someone could take a look at it please I would be very greatful. Thanks!
So opera mini seems to work pretty easily... I didn't have to change any of the crazy things like people said, I just renamed the http://www.opera.com/mini/download/s.../samsung_m500/ jad and jar files from that page and even the landscape mode works... weird.
