Actually guys, it's both AT&T and Google!
The google maps packaged with the w760i / debranded w760a is actually a crappier, slower, older version made specifically for that phone (probably for that GPS chip). Google states on their website that only certain phones can harness the GPS capabilities in the new GoogleMaps java app. Unfortunately, only WM Sony phones can use it.
The YahooGo! App refuses to be installed on the branded firmware because, my guess, is that AT&T disabled the installation of any app that's signed for GPS usages. It even says so under the information menu.
That's what I think. Until google releases a universal application that supports the w760i/branded, then and only then can we tell if AT&T's to blame. But hell, I'm right with you agreeing that AT&T probably already took preventative measures to save their revenue.
Jesus, is that Verizon I smell? Strange, I could have sworn I left them. Oh well, it must be something else ...
