Anyway to hack the APN settings on 2.2 to connect data to home proxy?

Is there anyway to hack the APN settings so that the Iphone connects to one's home computers proxy server?

I tried to enter my proxy server's IP address into "APN" under cellular data settings and my user name and password but when I load Safari, it says I need to subscribe to data.

I want to do this so I can connect to my home internet. Thanks

There's no way to connect to the internet from your home network other than through wifi. 3G/EDGE/GPRS data (i.e. connecting while away from wifi) doesn't work without having a data plan on your cell phone account (or expensively pay per use).

I read and read you question again and do not understand. You stil need data even to connect to your home proxy. Data can be provided by Wifi, 3G or Edge. So if you don't have wifi, a data plan is needed to connect to your proxy and anyway it is useless in this case.

He things that if he can connect to his home proxy versus the AT&T APN, that he won't have to pay for data, which is incorrect.

That's why you have WIFI. To connect to the internet through your own network (or other private/public WIFI networks) without using either EDGE or 3G

You don't need to hack the APN settings. Just get yourself a wireless router.

If your WIFI network is behind a firewall and requires proxy settings you would set them in the WIFI settings. Not the APN BTW

no no...he's trying to use data when he's not at home without having to have the appropriate plan. The OPs assumption (which is incorrect) is that you are paying for access to the ATT apn, and that if he used his own then he wouldn't have to pay for it.

I still honestly don't get it. If he wants to use his own, then that would only be accessible at home, in which case wifi is the way to go. I am honestly completely confused at the question, and the reason for the question.
