- The "cheap" Asian manufacturers are actually ODMs, OEMs of some "euro" looking devices. On the other hand, some Asian manufacturers like Samsung and LG hiring designers from Europe to beef up the "looks" among their portfolio in recent years.
So has Motorola, and so did GM. As those companies found out, hiring foreign designers doesn't mean your products suddenly become compelling.
As for the Tour, though, the difference is definitely moot. People have been bandying around the concept of "enabling" the extra bands via software so much that the uninitiated think it's actually likely going to happen.
It's NOT likely to happen, at all. If you buy a Tour, folks, it will be an EV-DO device for its' whole life. Other people can dream, and yes it would be really really really neat to hack a blackberry and bring out its' dormant NA HSPA bands.
^ This thread is about the RIM BlackBerry 9630, it's the topic all about here. If ppl want a multi-band WCDMA/UMTS support, wait until TELUS ACTUALLY launches the network w/ the compatible devices.
I'd take a Pre, iPhone, or Bold ANY DAY over any of the garbage Telus is offering at the moment...
Anyway I played with a Tour over the weekend and I absolutely love the size of it. It feels significantly smaller than even my s640, and the keyboard is golden.
I would totally get this if I was able to transfer over my $15 data plan...

The person who claimed to preorder it probably just got one of "those" call centre reps. The kind that will promise you something just to get you off the phone because they know it will never come back to them and a shorter average call time looks better on their statistics.
If you have worked in a call centre you would know how the managers pressure you to keep the call times down but then they say something completely contradictory like make sure you take good care of the customers. At the end of the month if the guy they post on the front bulletin board is the one with the lowest call times you know which property they value the most.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.
